I think about which way I want the back of the car to go in order to get the trailer where I want it. I find it much easier that way.

Practice, practice..... I have use of the yard owners trailer which has to be stored in a barn. All was fine until she had a skip deposited right where I place my Disco when manoeuvring trailer into said barn! Panic rose within me rather quickly. But when the time came for me to return trailer to its resting place, I just did not even think about the skip and managed to reverse trailer in within 2 minutes and in a better position than before. So practice and don't panic, just take it slow. Best of luck, you'll crack in no time.

When I reverse I look in my wing mirrors and say to myself' which side of the trailer do I want to get rid of?' And i Turn the steering wheel towards the mirror that has the trailer in it that I don't want to see. So in other words if I want the trailer to left I turn the wheel towards the right wing mirror because that's the bit if trailer I need to get out of my mirror.
Once the trailer has started making the turn you then need to turn your wheel back in the other direction to finish the turn. I hope this makes some sort of sense. It certainly works for me. My biggest tip is dont allow someone else to tell you on the ground 'right hand down , left hand down ' it doesn't work it just blocks your thought processes and they are usually wrong anyway!

This is what I was taught when I did some training turn the wheel towards the mirror with more of the trailer in. And just very gentle slow movements. If it is all going wrong just pull forwards, straighten up and start again.
