I moved my 22 yr old TB to a new yard in the weekend due to an increase in fees at our last place. She had been on the pervious yard for five years and was very well settled there. She is doing well at the new place - she is out 24/7 (always has been) has found a buddy in the herd, is eating her round bale and pasture grass and seems relaxed out in pasture. But...she is very nervy in the school and gromming area which is in american-style stabling, has shown no interest in her sneior mix (very unsual for her) and seems a bit tucked up. As her water source is an automatic drinker I don't know how much water she is getting. I'm assuming she is just stressed from the move and maybe is not drinking as much as she should be. She is pooping fine though and does'nt seem in discomfort so I'm not concerned about colic. I was going to try to tempt her with a mash made from her senior mix and a try to get her to drink some water with a little bit of molasses mixed in. Anyone think I am missing something? Am I right in thinking she just needs time and a routine to be established?

Well when I bought my horse she was exactly the same when out in the field she was fine but was alittle antsy for a few weeks in the school and in the yard not keen on her food but she calmed down after awhile but she is much younger but I think it can apply to most horses... They need to get used to their surroundings etc

I moved my tb last week, from a yard that he'd been at for 2 1/2 years.
He immediately settled in his new paddock, but has been very spooky and nervous around the rest of the property.
He also went off his food for the first couple of days, and scoured very badly... Tbh I thought I'd made a big mistake moving him and found it upsetting.
Well, he loves speedibeet, so I've been adding that to his meals to encourage him to eat up and rehydrate. I've also put him on a calmer, I thinking for a few wks, just to help take the edge off for him.
I've hurt my back, so haven't been able to ride, but I've been lunging or long reining and he is getting better each day, but I was surprised how unsettled he was at first, as hes normally so laid back.
Hes not a "well travelled" horse though, so I think if he was used to going out to shows and events, it wouldn't be such a big deal.
From the way hes' progressing, I'm thinking it will take him about a month to be fully settled, I am hoping that when I'm able to ride again, some consistent work will do him good, when hes left he has too much time on his hooves and an overactive imagination :)
Kx
