Am pretty broken, have a split fracture in one of the small bones in my wrist which will need to be pinned . So i can only ride with one hand. Had great lesson today in the security of indoor, working over cavaletti with no hands and over ground poles with no hands or stirrups. Just wondering if anyone here can recommend some exercises etc that i can do, also could do with some tips on trying to get a good position in trot minus stirrups, my mare has a big stride and felt at times today was going to be bounced out of the saddle.

What about lunge lessons, that way you can work without stirrups and use one hand to hold onto saddle if you are struggling to sit to her trot.
Hope your hand is soon fixed.

I worked today without stirrups and at times without reins, couldn't have been happier with my mare. Indoor really small so don't need to be on the lunge,... All the lateral work has paid off lol, she moves nicely enough away from my leg.

Hiya, Im pretty broken too! I am supposed to have both of my knees replaced!! both from riding accidents -_-
Anyways, i had some lessons whilst recovering i found it hard with stirrups. My instructor said to keep stretching my leg and seat muscles which helped sitting deeper in the saddle.
The one exercise was 'out, up and away'. While stood still on the horse, take your one leg away from the saddle, up like a jockey position and then relax. Holding each position for 10 seconds (or as long as you can!)
This is torture at first! but in time it will strengthen your seat and leg muscles which will help sitting deep in trot, canter ect.
hope this helps :)
