It's bitting 😄 a small rubber bit or a happy mouth is a good place to start just introduce slowly some people attach to a head collar to begin with and just leave it on for short periods.

Then I have just used a leather head piece and put the bit on that, then you can put a head collar over the top to lead from to start with so your not putting pressure on the mouth until the horse gets used to it.

personally i go for the bit i plan on keeping them in - wanted to get a lozenge style loose ring for my baby, tried an eggbutt jointed snaffle for size but she’s very happy in it so that’s what she’ll stay in for now!

provided the pony is comfortable with the process of the headpiece going over their ears etc, id just pop the bridle on whilst they’re tied up (with a headcollar ofc, not the bridle!) for a brush, and build up to walking out/lunging etc in a headcollar or cavesson, before introducing any pressure on the mouth.

Genuinely, I would get someone experienced in bitting/backing/breaking to help. These are such important steps where a bad first 'go' can make for a lot of angst and work and are not easily repaired.

I don't think it is a thing for some tips and off you go. Sorry.
