Only main roads are gritted. I have ridden out on country lanes in icy weather (stupidly) and nearly come to grief many many times over the years and if I had, I wouldn't dream of suing the council as I made that choice! I know plenty of folk who would sue though!

This is an interesting thread to me because on Friday when I arrived at yard all the horses were in because the carpark across which we walk to the fields was a skating rink and no one had made an attempt to defrost paths. I spread salt to make paths but couldn't turn mine out as they would be on their own in different fields on opposite sides of the yard and its frowned upon to have singleton horses out on own. I put more salt down late on Friday night and on Saturday everyone could turn out...and only one of the other DIY ers bothered to say thank you. I couldn't work out why no one else tried to defrost an area to walk on..strange.
