tips on greys and coloured show WHITE

Hibiscrub and warm water to start, then do a second wash with fairy liquid, or if you want to go for something more expensive, Gallop shampoo for greys.

Elbow grease and warm water are essential, whatever you use.
Also, using the tail to "scrub" itself is great for shifting dirt (i.e. grab it in 2 places, about 2cm apart and move both parts in a circular motion against each other - obviously this is below the dock)
 
Fairy liquid followed by another wash with Johnsons baby bath. I've just discovered this & my boys hocks & legs have never been as white!! :D

I was considering Johnson's baby bath after my last visit to the tack shop, when I saw the price of special grey shampoos, glad to hear it's good. :D
 
Is fairy liquid ok to use on horses? Isn't it a bit harsh for their skin? I've just brought a piebald so I'm also interested in what people use. I used to use any blue horse shampoo when I used to have a coloured years ago, they always seemed good.
 
Fairy liquid (the green stuff seems to work best?!) and hot hot hot water, and scrub! Always wash it out properly, like with any shampoos and you shouldn't have any skin problems. Gets my grey sparkling!
 
an old friend used to show her coloured horse and would always wash the white bits in glo white net whitener (used for window nets)

i always thought it was a bit harsh tbh, but he did glow brightly and didnt seem to have any skin problems with it. however, im not sure what the long term damage would be to use a cleaning product like that.
 
I have a skewbald who has pink skin hence a proper white coat :rolleyes: i bathed her under warm running water with whal dirty beastie shampoo, then for legs and tail (shes hogged) i used a touch of silver - its a shampoo thats designed to neutrilise yellow and brassy tones on grey/white/blonde hair - you only need a tiny bit - comes out bright violet but you have to work it in to a lather then leave for 10 mins, then rinse. Worked a treat on my cob!!
 
Tesco value baby shampoo and baby bath works miracles on my grey!! And at 8p bottle it's more than a bargain!! I think it's 8p. Might be 12p max!!!

Go to the baby section in tesco. By the johnsons shampoo x

Another vote here for Wahl 'dirtie beastie'
Also there was a post on here a while back showing a hairy cob with lots of white feather. Sorry can't remember the poster but the bright white results were down to Avon shampoo.

She'd used the oil which does help stains from gripping.

Warm water and be prepared to do a number of washes. I love fairy mixed with purple spray.

Vanner, do you mean the purple spray for wounds etc...?

Yesterday we washed my mare's tail and feathers for about one and a half hours, we did fairy, diamond white (purple stuff) and then old lady purple rinse shampoo from boots. Today she is soft and tangle free but still wee stained yellow. Do you think it is permanent? The middle portion of her tail is bright white inside but the rest is yellow :(

Help!
