My horse has a fairly long mane. I do not want to particually change the length of it. Just tidy it up a bit. Not sure pulling is the right thing to do as it is not overly thick either. Just has lots of scraggly ends. Scissors is always a no no! Any tips? Thanks

I would probably say to pull it a little bit..just take the very ends off, it wont change much for the length, just take off the 'dead ends' and as for thickness, it wont be much different, besides sometimes its nicer for horses to have a lighter mane in the summer, less hot:D

You can get mane pulling combs that have blades in them, like solo combs, or you can find cheaper ones for about £3.50 or something... usually this means they don't take the thickness out as they cut the mane BUT as you do the normal back combing, and only take small sections, it means it doesn't look like you've cut it at all, looks like you just pulled it ;)

my boys mane is really long (well over a foot) well half of it is the other half got rubbed out when his previous owners kept him in a rug several sizes to small :/ but I keep his mane loosely plaited most of the time.

When I need to tidy my highland's mane I break the straggly ends off with my fingers. It kills your fingers though so wearing rubber gloves helps! It gives a much more natural look than scissors/solo comb, I show mine so I need his mane long and full.
