Tips on loading a stubborn idiot!

We loaded again today beautifully. All my hard work and patience paid off....consistent relaxed loading just like it used to be and I am so pleased. He has re learnt that the ramp is safe.

Muff747...u make it sound like I am acting out 50 shades of grey on my horse! I was simply telling OP that it doesnt work. We have had to try that style because of the possibility of being locked in a car park / loss of light when comibpng home. I dont particularly approve of cages/winches/sedation/stallion chains but it doesnt mean it's "so sad" just that sometimes needs must & IF the horse IS being naughty! Sometimes the only way for some people/horses.

I am now a proud 100% loader owner once again through much time love & patience.

My boy will go backwards out of spite if we whip him. QUOTE]

I am sooo glad you have found MR TChamp. ;)
I found him or his methods i.e. Natural Horsemanship years ago because my 16h TB would pull away, drag you around when being led and also wouldn't tie up, he'd just pull until something broke and then walk away! He also was gelded late and thinks he's still in charge so I always have to be careful with my body language when I'm around him so I don't give him any wrong messages.
I first went to see Richard Maxwell who's demonstration started me off learning about horse psycology and the way they view our world and our actions and body language.
It was this sentence I found so sad because you think/thought your horse spiteful, especially when you whip him :(
But as I said, I am so glad for him that you have found MR and seen how counter productive this sort of comment is.
The more times you load in a calm quiet manner, the more it will reinforce his memory of enjoyable loading.
If you are interested in learning more about these methods which come in useful all the time, take a look at his Equus on-line university.
