My horse has just come back into work (on sunday) and hes doing 20min in walk just the the school. Hes been off since xmas as he chipped a bone in his leg.
Last night when I got him in he ate his dinner and some haylage then led down and went straight to sleep (he was ridden in the morning)
He seems fine in himself temp etc so do you think he was just tired and I should maybe reduce what he is doing? Vet is out again on wednesday

There is no point second guessing the vet as there are a thousand things it could be, but most would be identified by taking bloods, low grade infection and anaemia are the two most obvious though. It is worth making some notes for the vet to aid diagnosis, whether weight has recently been lost or gained, behaviour in the field, a breakdown of what feed is being given, the nature and quality of work, resting pulse v. pulse after exertion and recovery time - that kind of thing

well I would keep and eye on him but wouldnt be too concearned if he is taking the time to eat then bed down - my pont has always done this - she is only six though but after a long hot day she eats and then lies down like a dog would and of to the land of nod. Maybe give him another week and if your worried then ring the vet to take bloods?

Thanks guys, will speak to the vet on wednesday. He was slightly anaemic before I had him so have him on propell plus but he is still on the resting horse amount so will increase that back up to normal and see if that helps

Mine used to appear lethargic years back and blood tests showed he was slightly anaemic. We have fed him Kossolian blood salts ever since and he has not had a problem again. It could quite possibly be anaemia or it could just be 'him'!
