I have had a Kincade bridle for a couple of years and the leather is nice and supple and all the stitching is in good repair but the leather is looking a bit tired cosmetically - its not quite so black anymore.

I know that I could just buy another one for under £30 but I like this one - as I say its really soft and I was bought up to be frugal!

I was wondering whether I could just put a bit of black shoe polish on it? Its only the headpiece and cheek pieces that need doing?

No reason why you should not

Just spend a long time buffing to make sure it isn't going to leave marks on your horse (especially a grey)

You can also use a black marker pen to touch up any deep scratches, as the leather underneath is always havana.

However being frugal doesn't help the economy, so I think you should go and buy a fashion bridle!!

Try the Gold label leather treatment. It comes ina little pot, and just rub it in with your finger... it really does wonders.

Hi i always use black shoe polish on my show bridles before i go in the ring, and i have had no problems with using the bridle on a grey, (albeit wannabe bay), just remember though a little goes a long way or else you will be sat there for hours trying to bring up a shine!
