Have you ever had any experience using a calming / anti anxiety mask, either titanium or ceramic?

Would you say they worked for you, or not at all?

What brand / type would you recommend?

I used the Fenwick mask on a very hot show jumper and found it helped a bit. wasn't a wonder thing, but she was def a bit more relaxed in it

I haven't used one but I did discuss it with my behaviorist and she has seen some success. In her opinion it is nothing to do with titanium/ceramic and more to do with light, consistent pressure on the nerves and fascia. Like a thundershirt for a dog.

I came here to say that!

Its like the Back on track stuff and the rambo ionic etc. It does work, but only because it keeps the area warmer rather than any magic threads in the fabirc having healing powers
I’ve got both Back on Track stuff and the Fenwicks titanium mask with ears and that’s just how they work.

Both brands are very well made and really comforting to wear. I also have a BoT tee shirt and it’s lovely to wear! I used the Fenwicks titanium mask on my horse when she had TMJ issues and it really helped her.

They sort of wrap round and cuddle you without being heavy.

I bought the LT mask for my mare who gets anxious hacking alone and is very horse shy in warm ups. I’d read that there wasn’t much research to show LT makes much difference vs a ‘normal’ mask but I decided in for a penny, in for a pound.

I thought it was helping a little but not a miracle cure. Then I went to a show on Sunday.

I travelled her in it (was advised for them to work best they need to be on an hour or so before riding), then warmed up. She was quiet but felt a little stuffy going into jumps. I’d had a similar experience previously when I jumped her in it so I asked my partner to take it off. Went back in the warm up and she immediately exploded. Few broncs, immediately went anxious. I went out, put it back on, and she was instantly calm again.

I imagine this was probably more due to the accoustic ears and taking them off suddenly gave her stimulus overload but the difference was night and day. I honestly can’t believe the difference it made.

We were advised to put the mask on a while before we intended working our horse and found it worked better when we did that. We tried it on our other horses and he hated it though, so it doesn't suit all, worth borrowing before you buy if you can. I think it's warming and pressure that works too and not some magic substance

Just adding to this, I’ve been using a titanium mask this last week on my 5 yr old Connie. He is far far more relaxed in it. Working an absolute treat x magic bit of kit for him

That’s my gut feeling on them too
One of my riders tried one, as an observer I’m not sure if there was any effect, but the fact that over time she stopped using it and there wasn’t any noticeable change makes me think for that horse, it was more a placebo seat-belt for the jockey.
