Thought I would do a quick update on Dancer. She is going reeeeaaally well since I changed her girth (amerigo protector) and started using fluff under her saddle pad. Really taking the contact well now and hopfully will get out to some elems soon!

Please excuse my hideous hunch back in the mediums. Have no idea why I am doing that! and trying to improve on looking up. Think I am finally getting there.

For new people, dancer is a 20 year old tb. I have started doing dressage with her approx 3 years ago.

and to prove you can teach older horses new tricks, below is a comparison pic- Pictures on the left is July last year and then right pictures from today. You can also see the difference the girth made in front leg protraction.

Here is her new bling:

Bridle is sooo nice, might just buy a new horse that suits pretty bridles rather than try and make one suit my poor pony :D

The differences in paces from changing girth too is really good, I'm getting a new dr saddle soon so will def purchase a good girth!

Love the blue and the home made over reach boots, looking good :) x

Thanks :) I really love the blue and it suits all 3 of mine :D want to make matching sheepy brushing boots to go with the over reach boots when I ever get some spare time!

Don't be too hard on yourself - your position has improved tonnes!

Dancer looking great, you'd never guess her age :)

Thanks :) I have been trying but still feel way off ever having a position like you or PS.

Just wondering (and this is not meant to sound rude at all) but what made you go for the Amerigo girth over the Fairfax? I'm looking into getting a new girth so looking around :)

I did try the fairfax and thought it was good but so many negative reviews from it and also someone has done a dissertation on it at uni and found like no difference between it and a normal girth as well as finding out some other news that I won't blurt out online (Pm me if you would like to know :) )
I have a friend who runs a tack shop and saddle fits my ponies and she offered me the amerigo to rent for a couple of weeks to try and made a massive difference and all ponies seemed less girthy and much happier in it, improving even now after using it for 3- 4 weeks. Also, I slightly prefer the design to the fairfax as it seems more cut away from the elbow and also, my 3 horses are all pretty small and heard that if you have a horse with a certain width between the front legs then the fairfax would be no good.

Thanks! I actually love the bridle. I was a bit dubious as to whether it would suit Dancer because she has quite a petite head but with the new matching browband think it looks ace :)
I was amazed at the difference a girth can have. I never really thought about it before but having one that doesn't suit the horse must be so uncomfortable for them!

I'd say the change in strike length is from the fact you're riding her in a lovely open frame now, whereas before she was over-bent so it was restricted. Give yourself the credit!!

Gosh you would never guess she is 20! Love the new bling.
Looks like you have both come a long way, don't be to hard on yourself.... Enjoy it and have fun :)

She looks fabulous in that blue and I love the fifth picture down - gorgeous. Makes me feel optimistic about my 16-yr-old :) Love the bridle too, I have a bit of a fetish for those nosebands that hang.

I shouldn't worry about the position in medium - I practically fly off the back of the saddle when I do medium :o:rolleyes:;)

She looks great bless her, taking the rein forward more and more.

If it makes you feel better I detest my crazy legs and errant gay left hand.....we are never happy lol!!!

I couldn't believe it, she took the rein forward from the word go :D Mum goes "she looks really strong" I was like "I want her to be strong! Its good!" lol.
Lets not mention my wandering hands that like to migrate over to the other side of the withers ;)

Haha thanks! I think its actually a result of a lot of things as she is only starting to open up in the frame because she is finally starting to relax over her back and swing along more which is probably due to a lot of patience, hard work and girth/ massage pad/ dead sheep.

Thanks :) She likes to think she is actually 4 years old. Not long ago someone asked if she was recently backed (she was having a naughty day) that made me laugh lol. She is really enjoying using her brain and body in the school and working so figure I will just carry on until she starts to slow down (if she ever does!).

Heehee thanks :)
This is a pic of her when she was 17 years and we first started doing dressage:

Just goes to show, don't give up on the oldies ;)

She is lovely, just looks like she is backing off the strong bit - not going into the contact.

So much better than the previous pics though!

Wow massive improvement!

I have sent you a PM but not sure it work!?!

Anyway how did you make the Overreach boots? They looked lush! :D

She is even worse in a snaffle! And I have tried many different snaffles! I think she is just a horse with a sensitive mouth. She is really improving though :)

She looks fantastic! A real credit to you :D She obviously loves all her fancy posh stuff :D

Thankyou :) she thinks she is a princess, can only have the best!

Have replied :) Just stitched some new vinyl onto my old vantaggio over reaches.

Ah ok, thanks. From looking at pics of your girth on google, I have to say that I think I prefer yours to the Fairfax :)

Nothing like a good oldie and she is so pretty. Dont beat yourself up, you should see how I ride!!!!! Can I ask where you bought the bridle, noseband and blingy browband? It looks lovely on her little TB head, and she looks so like our mare, who is KWPN/TB - her head is pure TB, and I think it would suit her as well. However, only for poncing at BD, not BE - perish the thought!

I really love how big the surface area is and also how far cut back it is around the elbows. The only thing that annoys me is the material on the outside of it is rough so dirt gets caught in it really easy and is difficult to get out although scrubbing with soapy water seems to work.

Bridle is premiera from hypostore. My new favourite brand of bridle :)

and the browband is ww frontrieman. I also bought one for spot bott from here and the girl who runs it is so lovely, prices are amazing (cost me £40 for both including shipping) and sooo much choice! Basically can have absolutely anything.
