My partner has been offered a job in Wellington N.Z. I cannot Finance flying out my lovely horse. If I decide to follow my partner I will have to rehome my horse. If I can find the right home for him and decide to come out to NZ what are my chances of finding a share horse or buying a horse in the area and what is the riding like etc. I am really at a crossroads in making a decision .

Thank you very much for reading x

There is also Equichat.....and Horse talk.....I think they will come up with Google. I live further north, at the bottom of the Coromandel Peninsula....Wellington is the capital and I think there are some horsey areas not too far out of the city....We emigrated here back in 1973 and it was the best move ever!! We haven't been back at all, too busy living life here!! And we have achieved a standard of living and enjoyment that we would never have done in the UK!! And in saying that this country would have to be like the UK was 40 odd years ago!! Not too many people, good living conditions, opportunities.......I have known a number of people who sold up in the UK to become mortgage free over here, brought horses and dogs with them.....if I were you I would check transport out very carefully, you never know what might be possible....not many sharers as far as I know, but grazing is affordable and off the track tbs easy to acquire!!! Welcome to Paradise!!

I'm up the coast from Wellington. We could talk via PM if you want more info. There's not a huge market that I know of for share horses, as horses are comparatively cheaper to keep here, but horses are leased fairly frequently. Most horses will be out 24/7 in shared grazing, stables aren't particularly common. Riding is pretty good, although there isn't the bridleway system that there is in the UK.

Hi Alyth,
thank very much for your reply, I am glad that you love it so much over in N.Z. I have always heard such good things about the country, and it has been a dream of my partner and me to emigrate, now my partner has a job offer it has suddenly become very real. I cannot travel out at the same time as him because we are taking our dog, but with the rabies inoculations etc. she has to have the vaccine at least 6 months before travelling, that has been done so we are looking at January when we would be able to come out. As regards to bringing my horse, I really cannot afford to take him, it will cost between 5 and 6 thousand pounds just to bring the dog, so my horse would obviously be so much more, and that sadly is not viable. I will only leave him if I am completely certain that I have a very good home for him. If that all works out then I am looking forward to moving !
