To all liveries and YO's

I would say ur well within your rights!! Someone kept using my stable at my old yard - I ignored it until they started leaving litter so I locked it. Turns out it was the YO and on day two she forced it open and left a used syringe in there

I left soon after

YO's point of view - i wouldnt use your stable in the 1st place! i can imagine some YO wouldnt like it though if you've locked it, basically as it means they will have to use one of their own and then muck out after! mind you, they might just use another liveries!
From when i was a livery at a riding school - they used to do it, use your stable and never tidy up after themselves, originally, if you said they could use it they would reduce the rent a few pounds a week, (i never took them up on the offer) but then they said it was full rent, and they could use it also!!! needless to say, when our horses were out we padlocked the stables so they couldnt use them, it soon stopped them from doing it after we took the locks off!

(ps - sorry havent had chance to read all of the replies)

I am sorry I would be livid, I would ask for a discount on the stable bill for the times it has happened you pay your bills for sole use of the stable not to have a share in one. Not to mention all the straw and free labour they have been getting out of you for mucking out the stable their horses have been in. Totaly within your rights to put a lock on it imo.

thats appalling...speak to the yo...we dont allow anyone to use anybody elses stable.....however none of my liveries would do that anyway...

From the other side here.
We had a DIY livery in a stable right in the middle of the RS "block" (long story). Her stable had a 'shared door' with an RS stable. This meant to reach one of our stables we had to walk through the front of hers.

We kept her 'area' scrupulously clean, swept it out every evening last thing etc and made sure our ponies didn't snatch at her haynets etc... Yet she moaned and complained and made such a fuss that she ended up being moved (to a far more inconvinient box with no drinker actually which served her right). We made every effort to respect her box but a shared access door is a shared access door... not much we can do about it.

Anyway, basically, what I wanted to say was the I think it is shocking that the RS are using your stable and not even bothering to clear up after themselves... I would speak to YO pronto is I was you and I would be bloomin annoyed.

I think you are fully within your rights to put a padlock on your box. A lady at my yard had to last winter as her box was being used continually by the same person for one of her ponies to stand in. Said pony, messed up bed, weed and pooed to its hearts content and this was never cleaned up. The padlock on the door did cause consternation as we are a small yard but did the trick. I use the old trick of either leaving my wet bedding in the middle of the box in a pile ready for me to remove when I use stable or leave a few droppings and a load of rugs in there to put any unwanted visitors from mine.

quite within rights, your stable, your bedding and blooming cheek for someone else to use it and then to leave it dirty just is the icing on the cake!!!!
