To all Weathebeeta rug users.......

Afraid I'm am going to go against the grain here and say that I DON'T buy them because they are too generous in sizing for my little arab! Too big on the shoulders/chest and too deep, we get on with Amigo's much better.

Hi,
Love the tail flaps, make such a difference on a wet windy day. In fact I stitched my weatherbeeta tail flap onto my amigo after weatherbeeta got destroyed.
Like the leg straos with a bit of stretch and that you can remove them if they break.
They are nice and deep. Never seem to leak.Fronts don't have them silly clips.

Only downside, price more expensive than amigo's. Bit heavy to lug when wet but not half aas heavy as some others, e.g. horrid mastas. And why are the cool colours more expensive?

I think they represent good value for money, however as my horses live out 24/7 I always choose Rambo, Fal or Amigos' as I find they cope better with the excessive rainfall and breathe better.
If my horses were only part turned out I would have no reason not to buy them

I have a few Weatherbeeta rugs. I prefer Rambo rugs but they are much more expensive. I bought the Weatherbeeta ones because they are really cheap and good value for money because they are decent quality.

I had to get a lightweight turnout and all the tack shop has was the cheap landa one and to my surprise its still going strong 3 years later!
So this year instead of getting a rhino mw turnout for my new lad I got the weatherbeeta and its fab!
Great value for money IMO.

I really like them. My old horse wintered out in his Oricon for 3 years. When I had to have him put to sleep it was good enough to re-sell on ebay! I won't buy anything else for a winter turnout.

I love them, a 6ft weatherbeeta fits both my 14.2hh welsh cob and 15.1hh thoroughbred perfectly! they don't rub and they have a nice lining and they are reasonably priced. If money was no object then i would go for a rambo, but for what i can afford w.b is the best!

When we bought Belle, she came with a l/w weatherbeeta and I have to say that I love it. It fits her nicely (as she is quite broad across the chest), it never slips or rubs, it hasn't torn or sustained any kind of damage and it also looks good too. I like the length (as in how it covers the tops of her legs nicely) and the cut of it - the tail flap is good and the straps are sturdy.

However, I wouldn't by a weatherbeeta for a finer horse as I feel that they are more suited to broader or chunkier horses (Belle is an ISH and only about 1/8 draft, rest KWPN and TB, but is slightly wider than some). I would choose Amigo for the finer types. For a warmer rug this year we bought Belle a Derby House own brand rug which, to be frank, was ****. I hope in the future to buy her a weatherbeeta m/w, perhaps one of the Orican ones.

I found that Weathebeeta fits my pony better than the few non-WB rugs I own - the vast majority of his wardrobe is subsequently Weatherbeeta as I don't have to gamble on whether it will fit him or not.

Love them fit my arab mare perfectly. The oldish one I have is cotten lined which I actually prefer. Good price too.

Founds the older one's a good fit on most horses but the newer freestyle 'darts' don't suit either of my deep chested and necked horses well at all (should 'cups' too high up for the points of their shoulders.

Good quality and waterproof. Bit heavy but not as bad as some. Fittings usually last well. Love the big tail flap.

However you won't part me from my high-denier Axioms now, which as as good, if not better, much lighter in weight, generous and in depth and half the price :o

I choose WEatherbeeta first every time too. Have had a lot of their rugs over the years and find they fit my two broad chested Dales very well. Love the linings as they really leave their coats beautifully shiny, their fleeces are the best for wicking moisture away from a wet pony and puts it onto the outside of the rug to dry in the air leaving a dry pony underneath. Their Thermatex type rug is brilliant too, stable rugs are durable and well fitting. Definately a Weatherbeeta fan!!!

Love my weatherbeetas!

Love the price and the good quality of them.

I have a very high withered huge eventer and the rugs fit him well, keeps him dry and I adore the full tail flap which keeps big pony happy around the bottom area.

They don't rip and last forever plus they stay looking like new for a long time tbh I would not buy anything else now!

Even the dogs have weatherbeetas on!!!!

I'm going against the grain here. My new Westphalian brought a brand new 6'9" turnout sheet with her. She is very overweight and is quite warm enough in it but it isn't big enough around the neck (she's a BIG girl) and looks as though she has her collar turned back, lol!
We don't like leg straps but use one as a fillet string. She had only worn it for about 3 days when the clip broke leaving a very sharp edge. We had to get the pliers to remove the clip. Of course, you really want to be fiddling around behind a new big animal pulling and tugging at a fastener which will not budge. Fortunately she was very co-operative and unhurt but I am unlikely to buy another and in fact wouldn't have bought that one myself, as I have found them to be on the small side for big horses before.

I have been recomending and using them for years. I tend to buy a new one every 2 or 3 yrs, saves money on having them washed, after about 3yrs the lining over the back tends to bunch up, and becomes a bit thin, I always put the old one in the auction or sell them for about £30, I was very lucky this year, managed to buy an unused 2nd hand one for £50 and sold the old one, so the new one cost me £20 :-)...The freestyles fit big shoulderd cobs very well, never no rubs, and I use them as stable rugs too, just fold back the necks, wouldn't buy nothing else :-)

I used to buy weatherbeeta rugs all the time for my welsh cob, absolutely loved them and then suddenly a couple of years ago they just didn't seem to fit him as well. They started rubbing him around the front of the shoulders, folding underneath itself at the front by the buckles and generally seeming to be not as comfortable. Tried again when I had my new horse a shire x and pretty much the same problems occurred. So now buy amigos, mastas and shires as for mine they just seem to give a better fit especially around the chest.

All my rugs are weathebeeta, fit my pure TB brillently, never rub, & she is prone to everything rubbing her. Keep her really warm & dry also. Love them!

I absolutely LOVE Weatherbeeta rugs!! Won't but anything else (though I may now have to...read below)

Echo others - I have a deep chested native and these are the only rugs which dont rub him raw.

HOWEVER....BAD NEWS....I have just spoken to Weatherbeeta, who have told me that due to the price of cotton, they are discontinuing their whole freestyle range, and also the high necks!! These were my favourite rugs!!

OP - I don't know what you are gathering these opinions for, but maybe we could send some feedback from this post to Weatherbeeta and beg them to keep making these rugs??

I love mine (all rugs are Weatherbeetas) for my 16.2hh WB, fit well, never slip a cm, the combos don't rub out or even thin the mane. And priced well :)

They are the only brand that consistently fit my quirky shaped Gelderlander. He has very high withers and a flat back. I often feel he should be in an advert for Weatherbeeta as he owns one of almost every type! :)

And I agree with a poster above that the OP should collect all these glowing Weatherbeeta reviews and maybe give us all a DISCOUNT!!! :D

Yikes! Why stop?

I'm going to BETA next week, so if there's anyone there, I'll direct them to this thread (whilst on my knees begging them to keep the Freestyle ones going!).

Lots of other horses at my yard seem perfectly happy in their Weatherbeeta rugs but I would not buy another one for mine.

As with a couple of other posters here, they do not seem to fit the narrower, finer horse. I have bought him 2 WB rugs (both the 'top of the range' ones) which have not lasted longer than a couple of weeks at best. The same happens with Mastas.

Alternatively, I have Rambo and Fal rugs still going strong 12 years down the line so, although more expensive, that is all I will buy! :)
