To all you happy hackers out there........

I am most definately a happy hacker.

I bought my horse for relaxation and enjoyment. Competitions would stress me out too much.

I love going to the yard, and even if we dont actually do anything, just grooming him helps.

Hello everyone, my name is S_E, I'm 24 and a happy hacker!

I've ridden since I was 7, owned a pony since 11. I did the usual gymkhanas and a bit of showing and jumping when I was younger, probably up until I got Saf at 16 years old. I then moved the little herd to Meopham, at my previous yard the local gymkhana was held at our local pub (5 minutes ride away) who had a large plot of land next door. I've never had transport and due to my new location in the middle of nowhere I simply cannot get out to compete. Not that this bothers me, I have loads of fun finding new hacks with my sister who also rides.

Until this time last year I was a happy hacker. Then I came across TREC competitions. To me it's not actually a competition - I go for fun but it's an excellent way to prove to people that "Happy Hack" horses are good at things that other horses wouldn't be able to do.

This is the first time I have competed at anything without going green and forgetting to breathe!

You should give it a little go. It's fun. .....and Jasper and I have our first red rosette.

Someone switched a light on a few weeks ago, I thought, well I'm not really into competing, but whats all this endurance stuff about? Started reading up on it, and the 'newbie' rides sound like disicplined hacks whereby you need to keep up an average speed, but allows you to ride across countryside you wouldn't otherwise be allowed to.

Sooo, you might be interested in doing TREC or endurance if you're a happy hacker

I am a happy hacker...with a bit of showing thrown in.....but nothing as daring as XC

I personally think it takes guts and you have to be a fairly good rider to be able to manage a horse out in the big wide world where you don't know what you're going to come accross next...traffic, dogs, bridges.....scary bus shelters etc etc...

I like to be able to make my horse go nicely whilst out hacking...we school while we ride
