I'm at a stage of predicament lol my 6yr old DD wants a pony and I'm unsure what to get her shes had a Shetland and section c before but i want something she wont out grow to fast, I also have my nephew who would like to ride (pic of him in gallery) who is 4yr old and i have my own son i would like to get into riding in few years (8 months ) so i need something my daughter wont out grow for few years that my nephew can ride and once daughters out grown it my son and nephew can take over. confused yet? i am!

so question is what type of pony should i get my daughter? and what age?

i'm looking for the same. am looking at anything 12hh and under. native types.
shetlands
sec a
exmoor
and mixture of the above...

my son is 2 and i have another on the way.

but, if your daughter is 6 i guess you'll need something a bit bigger? if she's going to be riding it for a couple of years before the others grow into it... how about something short but stocky, so it takes up her leg but isn't too tall for the smaller ones to handle.
i do like exmoors.

p.s. someone on here has a STUNNING highland. dunno what they're like, but they are beautiful.

something native, exmoor/dartmoor, small new forest or a welsh B

I have a Welsh A who has gradually worked her way around all my friends kids! She is proper old fashioned mountain pony, stocky little thing with a leg on each corner. Current loaners have daughters of 3 & 8 so she does pony club (off to mini camp Sunday) with one and plonks round the farm with the other on the lead rein. I think they will keep her on once the 8 year old outgrows for the younger one as long as they can afford 2. She is quite capable, does games, SJ and XC and it 100% in traffic and to hack on and off the lead rein. I bought her cheaply as a companion but she is now worth her weight in gold!

My daughter is a tall 10 year old, as tall as most 12 year olds, and other than jumping over 2ft 3 where she has to be careful of her feet on the poles she still hasn't outgrown the 11.2 we've got on loan. If it were me I really don't think I would want to be going much taller than 12.2 as it's a long way for a 6 year old to fall off - which could potentially put her off, and at that height I would think you should get a good 6 years for your daughter to ride her.
I would look for a New Forest, I think they make great first ponies.

I still have my new forest pony (13.2) from when I was a teenager-he is ace!!! I got him when he was 4 (a bit cheeky so look for something a couple of years older!) and now my 5 yr old son potters about on him off lead (in the school!) he is too big for my son really as he is too nervous to do much trotting whereas he loves trotting on my sisters shetland pony- quite a size difference and not as high up!! So conclusion- go for a newforest or newforest x around 12-13hh tops?
