To buy with a history of sarcoids?

I just wanted some opinions as I don’t have any direct experience with sarcoids.
I’m buying a new horse and am going to look at a lovely one. Ticks all the boxes! Except 4 years ago there was a sarcoid on the ear area and on the sheath, these were successfully removed by the vet and none have appeared since.
what do you guys think? Am I in for a nightmare? Am I better to just wait until something similar comes up with no sarcoids?

thanks

I would say go and try out thoroughly and if he/she is a contender get a thorough vetting and owners vet notes to discuss what type was removed. Negotiate a generous discount if you buy. It seems some young horses with immature immune systems can develop sarcoids and after removal have no more. Some get them if stressed with a home move apparently. I wonder if you have to declare them to insurer if they haven’t been apparent for 4 years.
more knowledgeable people will be along.

I bought a horse with several existing but little changing sarcoids - chest, sheath, side, armpit. They are all dry and don't bother him at all (which was a big 'plus') and I got a really fantastic horse for a very small price as a result. They may or may not come back, or may get worse over time; I have a retirement plan in my head for Jacob when the time comes even though he is only 10yo as I know this risk, but it was worth taking for me as I have learnt so much from him already.

In short, I would say go for it - but be prepared to deal with the potential consequences one day.

Very low risk of any more or those coming back, probably almost as much risk of a horse with none getting one.

I would buy and I wouldn't expect any discount.

If you can accept the look of it, and there aren’t any in problematic areas regarding tack (girth and saddle area, poll etc. It’d probably be fine
