To charge for sharing or not??

I am thinking of allowing some one to ride my Pony....

Now I don't necessarily "need" either financial support or any help with yard duties as am at the yard with my other horse twice a day

What I want is some one to ride him as I'm too big, however do you think I would get a more committed person who would invest more time and energy in him if they had to contribute rather than if he was just a free ride ??

The yard has amazing facilities so a real great opportunity for the right person - however I don't want 100's of emails off unsuitable people after a freebie - but in the same breath the most perfect person might not be able to afford a financial commitment....

I do need quite a specific kind of jockey due to his size and temperament

Any thoughts?
 
Im one of the people who can't afford to financially contribute really, but would love the ride. So we do exist definitely! But I do think there are lots of timewasters about too who would just be in it for a freebie.
 
I have a girl ride my pony. Like you, I don't need the help or the money. As he lives out, there isn't really much work to do and I don't ask for any money. I'm not doing it for my benefit, but for the pony's as it means he gets ridden a bit more than if it was just me. He doesn't need it, it's just a bonus. Also, I do it because I am grateful for the many people who have allowed me to ride their ponies over the years and this is my way of giving something back to a capable young rider who currently has no horse of her own. But I wouldn't go so far as to call her a sharer; more a long term rider of the pony.

I would add, this pony needed a very specific rider: someone small, with guts and someone kind who was happy just to hack. So I was pleased to find such a pleasant young girl who met these requirements.
 
Then perhaps say 'financial contribution negotiable' in your advert. This means that if you find the perfect person and you don't want to charge them then you don't have to...... I wouldn't put free if it was me.
 
I can't afford another financial contribution, but I ride someone's horse for them and in turn look after her horses when she's at college, or like at the minute, at short notice intervals (or emergencies :) )

There are genuine people out there, you just have to shift through them :)
 
I would say contribution to be discussed then depending on who you get you can choose to charge or not. DO you need to go to yours twice a day? Maybe on the days they ride they could do mornings and ride then and you could do evenings so you would save time and also fuel money?

That is the exact kind of rider that I need. Small but gutsy and ideally not a child (yet he is child size at 13.2) and due to his crazy nature - hes not allowed to compete!!

I think the price negotiable comment is also fair. My yard insists that every one has their own insurance so I suppose that would filter out any one after a real freebie and any responsible rider, I would hope, wouldnt mind paying £60 a year for a pony they could ride as much as they wanted on such a well equipped yard.

As lessons are available I would rather them pay for lessons with the pony than give me beer money!!! Maybe that could be part of the deal - pay some thing like £10 a week but for that you have a "free" 1/2 hour riding lesson a week ;-)
