To Clip or Not to Clip?

Hmmm that is the question...

My boy is at present only being ridden at weekends... however I rode yesterday for 20mins (light schooling walk/trot/bending/leg yeilding and in that time he sweated!!) It really was a very light session. - due to the damn donkies getting in my way AND chasing my poochie who promptly tried to mount Jaggles to get to safety with me!! (Good pony just looked at him like GET OFF!)

Now do I clip? ... got 1000's of warm snuggly rugs...

Was thinking of doing a blanket BUT he sweats ALL over not just neck/saddle... hmmmmm what to do

I would start with a blanket or trace, you can always take more off if needed. You might find that once you've taken a bit off he doesn't get so hot everywhere else.

take it all off!!!

mum and i have just had similar discussion; im only riding my girlie once or twice a week at the mo, but when i do take her out, she gets all sweaty, and it hurts her when i put bridle on coz her ears are so fluffy! we have lots of nice rugs too, and have also had the 'blanket clip???' convo, and decided to clip her right out (except leggies - got to keep pyjamas on!). its tidier, and its no hardship to keep them rugged up, is it!!!!

My boy used to sweat loads and I used to take the whole body off leaving legs and head, then gave him a blanket clip the second time worked wonders. Gets rid of all the hair in the first place doesnt take long for them to grow back the hair, then they have a thinner coat when you give them a blanket and they dont sweat but have a bit of hair coverage, if you know what I mean, Really hard to describe it writing but you get my drift.

He had a blanket 2 years ago and TBH he did still sweat - but I was doing more wth him...

I 'may' be moving him back to my old yard so that I can ride more (Have limited riding/no school at OH's dads place) so I'd want to full him then anyways...

One thing I HATE with blanket clips is that you put on a bigger rug/neck rug to cover the clipped neck - yet he starts feeling VERY hot across back as still has his fluffy coat there!! grr!!
