To Clip Or Not To Clip?

I could really do with your advice, have got Pippa booked to be clipped in November, and mum has said I need to make my mind up wether I will or wont have her clipped so she can cancel the booking...
Pippa doesnt really grow a huge coat, but foes sweat up when doing lots of jumping...
I know you might say, just give her a bib etc, but she's never been clipped before, and we dont want to pay for her to be sedated, and I'd rather her not be clipped, than her making a fool of herself, and me being left embarrased...SO
what should I do?

Depends how much you ride her in winter if its only when jumping depends how much jumping you do i would be tempted to leave her!
She might not even need sedating or have you tried before?

Not sure I would sedate until I knew I had to, tbh, but you know your horse.

I would keep the appointment and try, she may surprise you. It would be worth clipping her if you intend to work her during the winter, it's so much easier to dry off after hard work if you do.
 
Why don't you get one of those mini trimmers you can buy, you can get them for only £10, see what she's like with this (obviously don't try and give her a full clip with them it would take you a week!), just see what she's like with the sound and vibrations etc, will give you a good idea whether she'll need sedating or not to clip properly. If she is a bit silly, spend time getting her used to them.
 
You say she sweats up when doing a lot of jumping, how often do you jump that much?
Clipping is more for the cooling off than the sweating up so if you have time to wait for them to cool down and you can swap rugs then if its just the odd couple of weeks that you do a lot of jumping then i would be tempted not to bother, if its everyday then it would probably be worth it.

I've had my mare 10 years, and had to give her sedalin every clip for every one of those years. It isn't embarassing...its just life.

I sedate her, twitch her then take everything off bar her head, sometimes her legs.

Having said that, this year shes suddenly decided I can trim her head with the little Liveryman trimmers which she has never done before. I'll still give her her dose of sedalin though!
