Am not sure whether to clip my horse or not, she hasnt been clipped yet this winter but I am working her more and she is getting sweaty quickly.....also with all the mud around I am constantly getting clumps of mud out of her up to her belly! What to do? If i do clip I wont be taking it right down so she will still have some of her coat

my lad was fully clipped in october, hes a traditonal cob, its fairly well grown out, and hes not over rugged but he has started to moult.

if i was going to clip now id take the lot off including head and legs. Other wise I find your talking mid june before real summer coat has grown through and the clip lines look awful if you want to go out and compete.

I was thinking of doing a full clip minus the head and legs.....if this happens this weekend will this affect her summer coat?

I suppose in theory it's a little late to give a first clip, but I was always told that as long as the last clip was done before the end of Jan then the summer coat is not affected.

Loads of people clip later with no problems though - so I wouldn't worry too much!

My horses have already started to lose their winter coats, so that means that the summer coat is starting to grow. Clipping now may ruin it.

Go for it, clipped my grey mare today as shes awful when it comes to moulting. Never had a problem with her coat in the past.

Thanks guys, I am going to go for the full clip i think. the temp drop has worried me but will just have to layer her, she has been rugged with her coat but nothing heavy so she will hopefully be fine... its not the hairyness its the sweat and mud, she came in the other day and looked like she had been dunked in clay mud! It was awful bless her.

just clip it all off :) waiting for new clippers for my birthday at beginning of feb than my hairy mare will be getting everything off again :)
