To clip or not to clip...

that is the question!

My new cob does not seem to be growing a proper summer coat - his hair is coarse and thick and making him sweat up. He was fully clipped for hunting over the winter and just looks like his clip has overgrown if that makes sense....!

I have left it in the hope that a proper summer coat would come through, but considering it is mid May, just can't see it happening, and want him smart for the show ring.

However if I clip him now am I running the risk of never getting a proper summer coat again?

I get the same problem with my show cob,now I clip him 3 weeks before every show so he looks his best ! If you aren't showing then I'd clip when ever he needs it altho a lot a people won't agree ! Most cob people that I know clip all year round.

I would defo clip him, alot of the professional showjumpers horses are clipped all summer, even the ones with fine coats, go for it.

I have the same problem with my cob, he's clipped all year round because he grows course guard hairs which make him look like a pig his coat grows so fast i could easily clip him every 4ish weeks to keep him looking smart for showing.

My welsh A still has a lot of his winter coat and he is young too! Seems to be taking an age to come out this year!

Im considering clipping mine to prevent the sweating too. I've come to the conclusion that its each to their own with clipping and do what is right for your pony ~ i also don't subscribe to the clipping one year ruining the next.

I'd clip!
