To confirm, Operation Rescue Golden Retriever is complete!

She's settling in brilliantly bless her :) I took her to the yard before the office - she didnt want to get out the car so I left her with the back open and after about three seconds she leapt out and proceeded to hoon around the place in a most unladylike manner :D She was careful of her back end though but it didn't slow her down any. After a good roll in the haylage and a wee she hada drink and investigated everything, dont think she'd ever seen a horse before but wasn't too worried by them. She's got recall, not brilliant but then she's only known me for 5 minutes :)

Got to the office and she said hello to everyone - either offering them a lead or her teddy :D She loves a game of tug-o-war but was very gentle about it :) She was chatting away too making everyone laugh at her :D

Mum brought Yellow Dog down and they said hello - he is boisterous and she was a bit scared of him but after barking at him a couple of times he backed off and she let him sniff at her. She got into mums car on her own so Mum took them off for a little walk together, she rang about 5 mins ago to say they'd gone back home and she's settled in Bear's old bed that they've lined with towels for now (Bear was buried with her blanket) until we go to Pets at Home tonight.

She's booked into the vets on monday (thought we'd give her time to settle) and the doggy parlour for Dec 8th I think as the hair on her back legs and tummy has matted in places. Watching her walk etc I think the main problem with her back legs is a lack of muscle, shes obv a bit tender around them but a lot of dog her age are so not really worried about it. We've got joint supplements etc to put her on and hopefully being walked everyday will put some muscle on her and improve her walking :)

She's obv had training - she walks well on the lead tho you have to be firm as she clearly thinks shes in charge of where you're going but she doesn't pull hard and once you say no she stops. She knows sit etc too and she's so friendly and cuddly I don't think she's been badly treated at all - it's all very strange.

I've got piccies on my phone which I'll upload when I get home though they're all fairly blurry, she doesn't sit still for long lol :D

MASSIVE thanks to CareyR and Jane who were FABULOUS :D xx

I am so pleased to hear this! She is such a lovely dog isn't she.

It is all so odd, she has clearly been well looked after in the past and just loves people so much - I just really don't understand why the previous owners would have allowed her to go to such an obviously unsuitable home.

I have been waiting for this thread!
I am soooooo pleased for the lovely old girl.........but soooo mad at the cr*p owners and sorry for the new staffy!

Well done you lovely AAD people for making this happen x

You just don't know do you - maybe her old owner died and the family didn't know what to do?:(

I'm glad it has worked out well for her, well done guys:)

Oh dear...just read through all the posts and im another one with a tear in my eye.....its just amazing how people can rally round to achieve things!

Maybe Candy should be the forum mascot?!!

I am rock hard and so I will NOT cry. at all.
However, I WILL take my virtual hat off to the amazing people who got this done though. SO so happy she's found a wonderful home. Well done ladies, such a lovely happy ending, thanks for the update.

Well done to everyone involved - what an amazing bunch of people.
I'm quite new on here but I'm getting to know you slowly but have quickly realised how wonderful and caring you all are.

Oh well done everyone. Yay Candy gets a lovely new home and to enjoy what are likely some new experiences for her. I bet she'll get a new lease on life as she realises she's landed on her feet.

Bravo HHO AAD! :)

Oh this is fantastic news!!!! Thank god you got her away, and so quickly. I look forward to seeing these photos, and hearing about your stories with her. Great work you lot!

Ok I admit it, I shed a tear too!! What a fantastic story, thank you all who helped Candy, what a lucky dog she is. Horse and Hound should run her story in one of the issues.

Dunno Hogged Cob, you wouldn't want to encourage more chavs to hoik their oldies to make way for a 'cool' replacement because of the good work of these ladies on here - and please don't think I am demeaning what they have done today in any way, I think they are heroes.

Candy is a very lucky girl, but there are too many eejits out there that think older dogs will get amazing homes with kind hearted people, gambolling about in green fields for all eternity every time they fancy an upgrade, and unlike what happened today, those homes are actually thin on the ground and the dogs will end up in a bag.
Candy will not be one of those dogs, but she is not alone in her recent situation :(

***headdesk***

And I bet the people they got her from thought she was going to a 'lovely' home.....thank God she landed with you guys.

This is a real lesson for anyone thinking of moving an oldie in better faith...can you imagine where she might have ended up :(

Well done everyone, really.

I always cringe when I see "free to a good home" because you just know how many poor dogs will end up like this, snatched up by people like this family (and this idiot as well whos advert I've just seen
http://www.wightbay.com/XCClassifieds/CPViewItem.asp?ID=3244031 ) and then given away again a week later when the novelty wears off or they want a nice cute puppy.

Really inspiring how you all got up and gave her a good home. Well done!

I would imagine that this is exactly what's happened (or similar).

Candy sounds very friendly and well adjusted, so obviously come from a caring home.

I look forward to the updates and am so happy for her :D:D

According to the update in the other thread this sadly wasn't the case. She was rehomed due to a marriage break up , then 2 months later rehomed again to the idiots who had her for a week. Thank heavens she now has a home for life.
