Just debating whether to clip of not.
She has rao and at the moment I don't think the heat is causing it to be worse but she does sweat up a lot after riding.
I'm in 2 minds aswell though as she is a coloured cob with a lot of white which is fine for her body as she wears a fly rug anyways to stop her mane burning when I've hogged. But would have to do do legs and head and worry about these areas burning as she won't keep a fly mask on.
Also I would like to do some local showing and have always kept her coat in the past.
The other thing is she has spondylitus so need to keep back warm but wouldn't be able to leave any fluff over the back.

What would u guy's do? Just carry on as we are or clip as long as breathing doesn't get any worse?

I clip my coloured all year round . He has a natural thickish coat and he is most comfortable without it . I use a fly rug and lots of sun cream on his legs , after a few weeks his legs start to grow out abit so the pink bits are not as visible . I do leave a big area unclipped around the saddle .

I've just fully clipped mine out and I've got him an Amigo Aussie. It should keep him a little bit warmer on cool nights and cool on hot days. He seems much happier now. Do legs actually get sunburnt? Mines in during the day so not really an issue, but I've never known clipped legs to burn before

I clip my maxi show cob all year, most show cobs are, mine gets so hot as a warm horse anyway. If I'm clipping I normally do it 7-10days before so it has time to settle.

It clip the cobs out year round too - they are far more comfortable. You can show clipped out - but to be honest the horse's comfort is more important. If she needs to be clipped out with fluff left on her back (which will stop you showing) the so be it.

So if I were to clip it would have to be Inc legs and head so it doesn't look like I've clipped? I was going to get 3mm clipper blades just so she still a bit more fluff but less than her summer coat.
Shay that was my generally feelings her welfare comes first.

Is yours the grey sports horse type mare? Not sure I'm thinking of the right horse or not! But if thats her then you could carefully blend the hair in so you could leave her legs on. Her face might be a bit trickier, but I'm sure it could be done.

I just did a full clip on my hairy cob. He has a summer coat like a normal horse's winter one. He is much more comfortable now.
