Just to see what you think...

As most of you know we are getting the new ponies, after the national champs next weekend. Would you still get them vetted, they have been examined extensivly by the team GB vet over the past year. Is it still worth it? It would be expensive to have all 5 vetted.

Thanks

Nope I wouldn't - but then I never do.

Good luck with them - hope they settle in perfectly.

Good good, because we are not, I was just wondering as most people seem to always vet here, where as we never have done.

Thanks Tia!

i have never had any of mine vetted....if there is anything i'm not happy about when viewing the horse i walk away. someone at my yard had a horse vetted, got it home and it had severe issues with it's back which were not picked up at the time, there is now a lengthy court case going on.....

I bought a horse this spring and she died the first night. LONG story, but the upshot was a) the vet said if he'd 5 star vetted her that morning, she'd probably have passed and b) the insurance company wouldn't pay up because I'd not had her 14 days yet and it wasn't an "accidental injury" - and a vetting would have made no difference to their decision.

I normaly would, however the circumstances here are slightly different. I have only ever purchased two horses that were not vetted. No 1 was a first pony several years ago, turned out to have breathing issues that were not disclosed, persuaded the owner that he had mislead me and got my money back. Second was a horse that I had ridden for 6 month previous and was owned by friends. In your situation I would probably not bother.
