Ok so I have been thinking for the last week or so that I might put my 11HH welshie out on loan as I am just about to start my proffessional qualifications and that is going to take up ALL of my spare time.

I feel that its not fair on him as I wont be able to give him enough time.

I have never put a horse out on loan and I worried as you hear total horror stories.

Is there a market out there for small ponies on loan as either a companion or kiddies loan pony etc etc!

There are good loaners out there - I'm on my second loan now and like to think i provide the perfect home, just make sure you thoroughly vet anyone that is a potential loaner, if your pone cant stay on your current yard, make sure you know and trust the yard he will be going to etc etc. it can work!

I agree with chestnutgeegee, i have 2 horses on loan and their owners are over the moon with how they are getting on and they have a fantastic home with me. Just make sure you take your time picking the right person as it will pay dividends in the long run. Like it was said before not all loan homes turn out like horror stories!!! Good luck.

I have just found my horse a loan home he went yesterday and i just vetted where he was going and got a contract written up etc and they are goin to be doing schoolin etc

as its a little pony then you are likely to be loaning to a child but make sure the parents are up to scratch! even if they are not "horsey" themselves make sure they at least appreciate how a pony needs looking after, & that a pony can not come second to whatever else the child wants to do- has common sense basically!

I agree with everyone else, I have just taken a 12hh welsh on loan, she is brilliant and everyone is happy. Be sure to vet the people properly and make sure you sort out a contract for them to sign, you cna download a generic contract from the BHS website and then you can adapt it to your own circumstances. There are lots of people out there just like us who make super loan homes. Personally I would be unlikely to choose non-horsey parents as a potential loaner because they will just not be able to support the child as well as parents who truly understand horsecare. Good luck!

Don't be put off loaning. I own two and have a third with me on loan, I love him just as much and we have a good relationship with his owner.
Just make sure you vet the home thoroughly.

I put my last horse out on loan and it couldn't have worked out better. He was with them for nearly 2 years on loan and they bought him last month, so good result all round

I've had two horses on loan myself, including my current horse, and again it's worked out really well.
