Hi I thought id just post up here for some advice.
I have a 15.3hh ex racer mare who has been out on loan for 9 months because I'm a full time student. The woman is now giving her back due to pregnancy and this is where the problem lies.
I am taking the whole of next summer to study abroad and would love to keep my mare but I just don't think it would be possible because of this aswell as the time and costs.
I can't bear the thought of selling her but maybe its the best thing for us both?

She can be spooky (as can any tb) and I found it hard to find a suitable caring person to loan her and selling will most likely pose the same issues.
The money I would get is not of importance to me id just like her to go to a good home where they will love her as much as I do.

Some details about the horse (some as stated above):

15.3hh 14yo (almost 15)
TB ex-racehorse (raced twice)
Chestnut mare (can be spooky but has perfect manners otherwise)
Good to catch, box, shoe (never clipped by me so not sure on this)
Snaffle mouth
Has competed dressage and sj (doesnt like to jump but will jump small)
Ive had her 7 years

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

So hard. Loan homes that are good are hard to find plus they can just send them back and if you are not around what would happen.
Also not easy to find the right home and once you have sold you have no control of what happens next

Its doubly hard when you're a student and abroad. I had one on loan when I was abroad, and it all fell through mid winter. It was hard work for my non-horsey parents, who had to go and collect the pony, and put it on full livery for a month until I came home and sorted it out...

Said pony was on loan on and off for over ten years. He had two good long loans, and three iffy ones. I've also had two ponies that we have loaned from other people. One we bought, the other we sent back - perhaps if we had owned it we would have done a bit more work, but as we didn't, when something better came up, we decided to go for the other one...

Personally I wouldn't loan unless I was fairly close by and knew them well.
