I'm in a debate with myself about wherher to move yards or not!

I'm on DIY livery on a livery yard which I moved to 2 years ago when my horse was lame and had laminitis so needed her close to home and yard didn't really matter as couldn't ride her. It's right alongside a main road so you have to go onto the main road before you can ride anywhere (luckily she fine in traffic). The yard was only going to be temporary until I could do more with her again.

Unfortunately there are no fields to ride in near me, it's all roadwork. My field is 1/4 mile from my stable down a lane which isn't fun in the winter!

I guess what's I'm trying to say an as opportunity has come up to move to a yard a bit further from home but much better hacking, use of more facilities etc. The main downside is there is less turnout (still 24/7 if wanted but not as big) but at the moment my field is too big for one horse and she's only ever on a small patch of grass anyway! We know the people on the yard anyway and they are so accommodating and would really love to have us on livery with them.

I guess I'm undecided as if its not broke don't fix it type thing?!

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

I don't like horses being turned out alone especially if they are also being restricted so that plus the walk and nowhere to ride without going on a main road would be enough to make most people move, it sounds as if you will do more with her, the fact there is less grass should be a positive rather than negative, for a slightly longer journey the benefits should be worthwhile, if your horse could have a shared field that would be a bonus in my view.

You are all right! I don't know why I'm still undecided! I think maybe because where I am is convenient. (On the way to work) but also at new yard I'd have someone to look after here when I can't there or on holiday! I don't have that now! I always struggle to find someone to look after her! I think I just need to bite the bullet!

I've just moved from a tiny private yard next door to my house lovely grazing but individual and a horrible main road with hardly any hacking to a assisted yard 40 mins from home and 10 mins from work and it was the best thing I could have done. I've ridden more there in the last month (including a weeks box rest!) than I did in the almost a year at the previous yard. Fabulous hacking straight off the yard no road work and I've even hacked with a head torch in the almost dark. Worth the extra money with out a doubt! Move and get out and enjoy your horse!!!
