To my Lovely Boys…………..

Just a message from me, to you…

Teddy and Ajay - Thanks for this year. You have always been here, in your cheeky little selves. Both of you are perfect for Millie, I’m sure she will appreciate you one day. Sorry you haven’t done much but I expect you like living in the field, no one to make you work, must be relaxing.

Bobbie, Brook, Rory, Richard, Freddie- I love you all. You’re a wonderful lot. Freddie you keep on being the way you are, so cuddly and such a worker. Richard, you cheeky chappy, less of the escaping, injuries and freaking out next year please. You are such a sweety though. Rory, keep up the good work. Try not to canter through your next dressage, your canter might be pretty but we don’t find it funny. Please be careful with Tor, she is easily put off, but she loves you, you little show off. Brook- Thanks. You restored my confidence in driving after some scary times with Pip. You never know, I might do some more with you. Bobbie- You’re such a tryer, I bet this time next year you will go like a poppet. You try so hard, I’m sorry about your past, but you are a legend in your own right. You boys are such a delight to have around, love you all.

Ginga- What an amazing boy you are. At the beginning of the year you took me round the indoor championships. I could never have even considered it with out you showing me around. I owe so much to you. I love jumping you as well. I have jumped bigger on you than I have done any other pony. Crazy, I have had 2 BSJA ponies, but jumped my 13.3 driving welsh cob higher. Just shows how sweet you are Gingy. I hope we will have more time together, but I can’t guarantee anything. You might have to go to a home where they will use you more, you will like it there, trust me….sorry.

Pip-What a year we’ve had. Can you even remember the beginning of the year? You’d never been sat on, or driven singly. You have come so far. Not only with your work, but with you brain. Do you remember that first event I drove you at? You couldn’t cope, you wouldn’t stop rearing, driven or at the lorry. Dad even threatened to sell you. I couldn’t let him. I knew there was something special in you. You used to be so difficult to drive; you went like a snake controlled by 2 lines to the mouth, how far you’ve come. The second event, you were still a nightmare to drive, can’t remember our cones scores, but it was pretty humongous. You were better though. Like a real baby, not doing anything wrong, just scared and confused. After that do you remember, Ginga went lame and I had to take you to that clinic? They weren’t very nice about you were they, but they still couldn’t deny you had a fab working trot when you relaxed, just unfortunate it was such a battle to keep you going forwards for the first 45 mins.
After then we had the first Ashfields event, you dressage was OK considering, but still under 50%. Our cones were respectable, we got fastest of the whole day, even though it’s not against the clock, we only got 2 down though so I guess we weren’t going too fast. You shone in the obstacles though, you are such a natural, and you hardly came back from the 20 KM with the last 5 or 6 at the canter in a sweat. We got fastest times of our class for all of them, well done Pip; I definitely wouldn’t have had the confidence to do them at that speed if you hadn’t decided our pace for us.
We then did lots of riding. You found it weird at first didn’t you, I couldn’t steer you, or trot and canter was out of the question. But you were such a good boy, you had quite a few paddies when it all got too exciting, like when I first asked you to canter, or trot with others in the school, or jumping or trotting poles…Life’s and exciting place for a pony! It didn’t take you long to get the idea though, even though some days you do seem to forget it all. Your great to ride, you really feel special, you just so ‘electric’ and connected. Our first ridden dressage was so special Pip. You really are such a star. We went their, surrounded by big German horses, with posh brands and people saying how they had just imported them and they were so good. And there I was on you, my Little Chestnut pony, which had been broken about 6 weeks. You didn’t care at all did you, you went round like a pro, not a bother in the world, you even got a 7 for you canter transition, and you’d been cantering less than a fortnight! You held it together for me so well, how you could be so confident is beyond me, FFS you’d never even been on a surface like that before, and you freaked the first time you went in our ménage. I was so proud, you behave impeccably, and you had never even had a lesson with a pro. I cried the journey back, tears of pure pride. After then we tried a bit of jumping, you’re so naturally talented, too much for me to do so I think we will leave that for a bit.
We then went off to summer camp I was so down then, you probably knew, after all you know about anything before anyone else. Boy did you get me up from that dark place. Your schooling driven improved 10 fold over that camp. Straight after we had the event, our dressage was awful compared to how it had been in practise. I got nervous and Pippy the bucking unsteerable pony returned. The judge’s comments were cutting ‘Really needs to work straighter and rounder’. I could have given up then, sold you back to a passing Gypsy. Didn’t the judge see how far we had come, what did they think we had been working on for the last year? You made it up though, the Presentation Judge loved you, thought you were a classy boy. Our cones were great again, not so fast as before, but still fast enough and again 2 down. We won that part! What an amazing boy, I must have really been jabbing you after our dressage, I was terrified before we started, I couldn’t even steer you into the arena, but you’re a pony who knows his job, after you starting explosion combined with the squeal you were off.
On the marathon the next day you excelled your self. The pony national champion comment on how lovely you were, and you got best marathon of the year, a swell as fastest through most of the obstacles. Just before number one you had your squeal, every laughed you really are a funny boy. In obstacle 7 we really had a crowd. When walking it I decided I was going to turn indide the obstacles I decided we would turn inside the obstacle. The space we had for a U turn was 3 meters, we are 1.25 wide. The person behind me, the horse national champion said it was impossible, no one could do it let alone a little pre-novice person, and even if they could they would be very slow. When we came to it I noticed the people, Prince Phillip and George Bowman included. Sh!t I though, this really isn’t good. Crowds on the water I can cope with but now ARGG. Coming up to it I though about going round, but you were cantering nicely, I couldn't duck out now. I came to the gap. Boy that space was small. I wasn’t sure we could make it but I had no choice. Turning round 'poop' I though, the shafts going to get stuck, quick reverse and then and before I had breathed we had completed our two point turn and were galloping to gate E. Out of the obstacle we went at the gallop. I didn’t know if we had been fast, I was just pleased we made it. Just as we left there was a huge cheer. You had done it Pippy, my superstar. Not only had you turned a tiny turn , but you were the fastest of the day. We came 2nd at that event, winning cones and Marathon, coming last in dressage! We also won the national novice junior champion and Pre-novice East Anglian champion then, Your lovely silver plates and sashes.
We then dressaged dressaged dressaged. We did that other one. Your were perfect in the warm-up, again!! Someone asked me what you were fed as you had so much energy but yet still so relaxed. It felt great to say grass and a little more grass!! Your ability to keep yourself fit is unrivalled. I really don’t know another pony that can do that like you. People feed their horses all those wonderful concuptions of feed to get energy for a marathon, or muscle for dressage but you thrive on grass and never get fat. You were a cheeky chappy in the test, but still great really, much better than I could ever have done on most ponies.
Then the first indoors of the season. No one would have anticipated it you got 75% in you dressage! you got almost all 8’s, the odd 7, 1 5 and 6 and 2 9’s!!!! Before this season you’d never even got a 7! So many people we nice about your test, both the judges, 2 other people in our class and a randomer. You owned that arena, totally relaxed yet powerful, through and supple. Please repeat that, it was an amazing feeling. After that I let you down, big time in the cone and Obstacles, but here’s to our next event on the 30th. You don’t know this but here’s something for you…The 3 best single pony drivers have all commented on how lovely you are. At the clinic I went to without you one said they had NEVER seen a pony go so well driven. Well done Pippy, what an achievement, and it really is all you, I’m such a novice with so much to learn. We are blind leading the blind, I’ve been driving only a couple of years, competing for only a year and you were hardly broken, but together we work, we really are a partnership. I love you my fizzy, sharp oversensitive, ‘special’ little orange beastie. I can’t wait for next year with you Pippy, we are doing as many 3DE’s as we can get to, trying to qualify for the nationals and fingers crossed we are going to the junior worlds. What a crazy idea, but I recon if we keep up the work we might just make it. Bring it on!!

Have a good Christmas Boys, and I hope you will be on form for the 30th

To you all thank you so much for this year. One thing I can say truly from the heart is I honestly wouldn’t be here now if it wasn’t for you. You’ve picked me up from the deepest of lows, and given me the greatest highs and asked nothing in return. You boys really are the world to me. I love you.

From Haz.
