To paint or not to paint

Noooo, you'll regret it if you do as you'll keep on having to do it year after year, much easier to maintain in its natural state or just with a stain on :)

There are three wooden stables at my parent's place and one is painted white on the top half inside. It's so much nicer and lighter in that stable and I plan to do the inside of the other two to match.

Years ago I moved to a ten horse DIY yard, concrete block boxes. I was given permission to paint the inside of mine, everyone else took the milk but into winter it made a massive difference and by the following winter most boxes had been painted, be warned though, your horse will undoubtedly add his own brown paint in vertical stripes...

We have a wooden courtyard of stables and the insides have never been painted, as they are obviously protected by the elements they have stayed light and the stables are not dark, once you paint/stain them they you have to keep ontop of it. We just re-stain the exterior once a year and they are tiptop. Best of luck with whatever you choose. X

The one I'm talking about is painted above the kickboards. There are no brown stripes on the paint as none of the horses are tall enough even if they tried, but they don't poo down the walls anyway

Domsmith - that's cool! Your rubber matting is upside down though :( the channels should be on the bottom going in the direction of your drainage slant to allow any wet underneath to drain off.

Very posh indeed. :)

Fides is right, afraid your rubber matting is upside down, need to be bumpy side up for grip and channels down for draining. Stable looks fab well done x

haha! No they are actually cattle slats!. the mats arent down yet in that picture. I have converted an old cattle shed for my horses. They should aid drainage but will have to be careful of them collapsing. i love my new stables!! its like christmas everyday :-)
