I have entered a small local dressage comp. Normally i plait up, but it is unbearably hot at the moment and i am seriously considering not bothering. He is a Sec D but has a short pulled mane. We are doing 2 pre lim classes. Would you say i will be frowned upon? I know that it does look smart to be plaited but i am thinking of him really in this heat.

I would plait up - I wouldnt have said that unplaited would keep him any cooler to be honest, and it is 'correct' for dressage. If it were me, I would still plait

Ditto this, it also looks a little disrespectful not too.

I have a section c with a long mane. Would you use a running plait or leave alone? Personaly I would plait with a short mane. Good luck with the show pipper

If he is native, in a native state, then no - or do a running plait to get it out of the way.

If he is native but pulled and trimmed, then plait him up.

Oh Blimee - looks like im gonna have to plait then! i have a bad shoulder the heat is getting to me - im serioulsy thining of pulling out! shame really as i want ot do it - but im afraid im not good in the heat - roll on winter! x

Thanks Crazymare, and clairel I have a IDX, I dont suppose you want to come and plait him for me - my plaits dont look anything like yours unfortunatly haha
Pipper if it is a small local event then go uplaited rather than not going at all, Im sure you wont be the only one unplaited! x

most people I know do small local unplaited anyway,- though I think you have even more of an excuse with a welshie my boy had a long mane so I used to do a running plait.

Now pulled because of the heat but tbh far to thick to plait unless golfballs and correct turn out for natives is natural. he isn't trimmed anywhere else, full feathers etc.. I don't intend on plaiting for dressage at any of our local shows, particularly as he will be showing aswell.
- I was going to area or aff I might plait but otherwise no.

have just got back from yard - my shoulder is killing me - god knows what ive done to it! so although i think i should plait there is no way i will be able to! IF i go - and its now a big 'if' i will appologise to the judge before i ride the test, so as not to appear disrespectful. TBH though i am seriously doubting being able to ride in this pain.
