Hi everyone. Can you tell me if you have to plait for prelim dressage ? (cant stand plaiting, drives me mad !!) My horsie has a very neet short pulled mane so looks tidy.

You don't have to do it, but if your horse isn't a native it looks very disrepectful to the judge etc if you don't.

I would always always plait for dressage

You dont "have" to plait for any dressage. People tend to, I personally always do even if only doing 1 test, as I think it looks smart and helps with the overall appearance. I think it is nice to show that you have made that little extra effort - but you wouldnt get marked down for not plaiting.

Go on.....do it! If only to get a pretty photo! I think that horses look much neater all plaited (even though my plaits need ALOT of work, they currently look like massive golfballs)

I would plait. If your mane is neat and short and pulled then there is no reason not to.

It's a mark of respect to the judge to turn out well for dressage.

Affiliated or unaffiliated? I always plait, but see plenty of people unplaited at unaff evening shows. Have written for the judges several times, and they have never said anything about it.
