Doing showing in a months time, my mare is 1/2 welsh, 1/4 arab and 1/4 TB. Her mane is really thin at the bottom and thick at the top, and she has scrubbed it a bit in the middle [shes an idiot I know]. Im doing a 13-16 yr old class, says nothing about breed on the schedule. Should I pull her mane to tidy it up and leave it or attempt plaiting, although I know its going to look terrible?

Help please

I think you should plait. If you are careful you can disguise the rubbed bit.

Have you got any friends who are good at plaiting? (I get the impression you don't think you will do a good job).

I would plait - if the scrubbed bits are really thin then don't actually plait them, just put a band round them and fold them up. That's what I did when my mare rubbed her mane last winter and you can see from this photo that (from a distance) they don't look too awful (I just wish the same can be said about me

Don't forget to use setting lotion or Quikbraid to stop the spiky hairs sticking out.

Ha, can do tails easy as I used to practice on the riding school ponies when I was little, didnt get a lot of goes on manes though as was too small

Will spend some time over the next few weeks neatening and practicing
