Ok, so I’m going to take the plunge and enter the very lovely Ned into a couple of novice working hunter classes.

after some advice from you showing divas out there!

He’s a green book Connie, so I can leave him unplaited, but I hate straggly feathers, so I trim those, his mane is frizzy, so I thin it and keep it at around 5-6” long and straight. His tail is full, long and luxurious ?

I’m tempted to plait him up because he doesn’t look like a typical native type, he’s very pretty and I think it looks more professional, but at 53, at a local novice show am I overthinking and going over the top?

I would plait if it isn’t a native workers class and woth the feathers being trimmed. I would plait even at local level as I think it just shows respect to the organisers that you’ve made the effort.

yes, thank you! that’s my thinking too. I’d better get practicing my tail plaiting, must be 25 years since I last did it! ?

I would have said either leave him fully untrimmed (feathers still on) and show him as a native, so just leave him au-natural!

Or else trim feathers, bang up the tail & pull it/plait - so full showing turnout, but I wouldnt trim feathers and then leave him unplaited cause thats half and half!

I only show locally really aswell but I love trying to be as correct as I can, make me feel more ready for the class!

Don’t worry about tail plaiting. You only see plaited tails on youngstock. Ridden horses plaited manes and pulled/trimmed tails. So at least that’s one less thing that needs a hairdresser lol
