To pull or not to pull!

I have a traditional cob who is, of course, supposed to be kept as hairy as possible but all that hair is driving me mad! As he is not a coloured traditional he doesn't really fit into any showing categories so being correct for showing isn't an issue. However, the only time I got rid of his hair I felt that I was trying to make him into something he's not and that it made him look a bit out of proportion (short thick legs and a heavy body!). I'm going to try and post some photos and I would appreciate any thoughts. I've been thinking that perhaps I could pull his mane semi-short as the Welsh cobs seem to have for showing. Would that be reasonable for a traditional?

When he was pulled and trimmed last year:

And how he is now:

I've never posted pics before - hope they work!

ETA - I don't know why that didn't work!

I prefer him trimmed up, but then I like my horses trimmed!

Trimmed cobs (as in showing style cobs) often have short stubby legs and a big heavy body! (or at least heavy weights often do!)

Trimmed is neater unless you want to spend HOURS AND HOURS doing the grooming of long hair!

Thanks everyone! Seems to be a bit of a consensus on this one!!
Inchy - he's 14.2hh, I thought that was maybe a bit small for a non-traditional??
