Yet another question! Horse in question is my American Paint stud, I have a friend coming later to start pulling my foresters mane and I'm not sure if I should get him tidied up too. His mane is quite long and his chosen career will be reining.

Sorry haven't got a lot of pictures of him but here's one:

So...pull...or leave long?
 
I am assuming that is the forester - otherwise he isn't a very colourful Paint ? I thought that the QH people actually show their horses with short manes, that are separated into tiny bunches ?
 
His white bits are on his belly and bum...he's not a very painty paint. Also technically full QH but can't be registered as such due to crop outs, only with AQHA UK. We also have a paint with no colour, it's a breed rather than a colour. :)

Reiners tend to be left long and flowing, halter horses tend to be pulled short and banded for shows. I can assure you he isn't a forester and looks nothing like one lol, I won't tell him or he will be offended! :p

ETA: : Forester AKA little Jay came off the forest as a yearling but has turned into the most cracking little pony, he was so nervous but now is a bold little monster and we love him to bits, I just want him to look less like the wild man of Borneo!

If he is going to be reining and reiners are usually long and flowing, I don't understand why you are asking the question, any more than I understand why your are intending to pull a native, who should also be kept natural.
 
The native isn't actually registered so must be shown pulled and plaited. I am currently unable to ride due to my pregnancy so my reiner won't be reining for a while yet, he is only just in training, so it's just down to preference at the moment. :)

ETA: His hair grows at a rather astonishing rate, it was pulled last summer and was past his neck tonight. It was tidied up a bit rather than totally pulled, as it was very thick and a bit unruly! :)

Pulling a reining horse's mane?? Noooooooooo...

Enjoy cultivating the luscious locks, when they get properly long enough you can enjoy creating running or single plaits to keep it in check - gorgeous!

Alternatively, I'll swap you my reining mare's mane, which is pathetically fine with a non-existent forelock - very easy to keep tidy but not quite the right look for her sport!
