My younster (3yo) tends to kick out when excitable not at anything in particular but has caught me in the arm before at a show. Should i put a red ribbon in his tail for a inhand class?

We had the same problem and were advised to use a green ribbon to indicate youngster/novice and thereby unpredictable.

Several people advised against the red as this would 'label' him as being a kicker. We found the green worked well and most people did stay away, those that didn't were politely asked to give some room to the young horse which they did quite happily.

Absolutely, I would actually use a strip of red and a strip of green for the bow

thanks thats just the worry i have him being labelled as a kicker, hes not doing it malliciously just wanting to get going i see him doing it in the field sometimes. hoping it will pass with experience when everything isnt as exciting. In the same sense i dont want anyone to get hurt!

I specifically asked my insurance about this and was told no if you put either in and your horse kicks someone you invalidate your policy :(. Personally think that is ridiculous.
I have thought of ringing back and speaking to someone else to see if she was wrong but no longer have the horse concerned

Hiya soulfull, hope you are ok.
It does seem ridiculous doesn't it.
I used to have a horse which would kick out sometimes but some show schedules state that known kickers MUST wear a red ribbon. Surprisingly, some people still came too close for comfort.
