Hi all

I'm new to posting but I was hoping for some friendly advice.

I came off my horse in the arena last Sunday. It was nothing he did....just me being unbalanced and a bit over confident.
Anyway I now have one blacky/blue bum cheek and a sore back round about my monkey bone.

I'm really missing riding. I usually ride most days. I've still been spending time with Jim but it's frustrating me that i can't ride.

So I'm thinking of trying a slow sedate walk today and see how I go. My only worry is if the unexpected happens and my boy spooks and sets off...... I would be in some pain. lol

I think I'm answering my own question now I've put it in writing. Has anyone else been in this situation and how long did you wait to ride again?
Is it better to rest my aching body or would it do me good to get back in the saddle and exercise it?
Any advice appreciated xx

Hello and welcome to the forum

It would be best to take it easy and not ride in honesty but If you are really desperate you could do a very gentle walk only in the school but i would not do more than that.
Hope you feel better soon

probably not ride, you wont be comfortable and you'll prob put yourself in an odd position to compensate. wont do you or the horse any good

funny you calling your coccyx your monkey bone, my OH calls it that too but id never heard the term before! (incidentally , my monkey bone is enormous, lol, according to OH im barely more than an ape

Thanks for your replies and welcome.

Think you're right about not being comfortable.....and my position's odd enough to start with :-)

I thought everyone called it a monkeybone. haha.

Guess it's down to the farm to lunge and pamper him then.

Thanks again......have a nice day

Not quite the same - but i slipped on the stairs and sat down really hard on my coccyx (monkey bone??) it was about 3 weeks before i could ride properly as the slightest jolt would send a bolt of pain up my back.....best to take it easy where backs are concerned, hope you mend soon.

thanks. I went to lunge him and when i attempted to get a jog on to spur him into cantering it hurt like hell so I'm glad I didn't ride.

It's soooooooo frustrating though :-(

I had an ufortunate fall and damaged my coccyx. The very next day i rode. My hubby helped me aboard and aided me with the dismount, but I RODE! You know what you can do. If you can sit on a horse then get on with it, if not get off and watch a dvd. You know the answer so why you need to post about it defeats me! x

I posted to gain an objejctive opinion and gain the benefit of other peoples experience to see if I was just being a wuss or not..... all opinions appreciated.

ps - bizarre how my posting defeats you when you are obviously such a heroine x

what would you do if your horse was that sore? see? you would probably rest him til ok again...??!! it is easy to forget our own health but really it is probably best to heal it out properly so you will be ok in the long run

haha - I am in fact a 5ft 1 single mum with no other half to pay my mortgage or Jimmys upkeep should I have to take time off work sick due to my exploits on horseback - hence the caution.

Nice pics btw
