Can anybody help me decide what to do with Ginga

Selling

For

He can be appreciated,

Less work for me.

Ultimately get some money and save some money

Against

If we want to do any coahing we would need him for his strength

He is such an amazing pony it would be ashame to sell him then regret it.

If something goes wrong with a few of the other ponies we would want him for the team.

I wouldn't have an 'easy' riding pony.

He could be totaly wrecked or waisted.

Loan

For

He can be used and appreciated.

We can still get him back if we need.

Against

They could ruin him

He would probably have a break from either riding or driving while he was there

Keeping

For

We have him. know he is kept well and sane

We can use him if we need a spare

I can have fun bombing around on him

Against

He is in his prime, but wont be competeing for the for the next year atleast

Takes a fair bit of time as need regular work to help his weight.

Extra work for me.

Thanks

mm, but I just feel bad, he get ridden about 4 times a week, but he won't get to compete and he is so talented its a waste for him.

But he won't care that he's not competing. i know a lot of horses love going to shows and competing, and get really upset if the lorry leaves without them, but I honestly don't think they stand in their fields and think, "I wish I was going jumping/to dressage/eventing/etc".

I have Pip- I have alot on with him next year and only get to go to limited shows. With me and Pip going for Austria, and Dad taking the team out they need all the time they can get. All the events I'm doing are selection events for the worlds, and Ginga couldn't do them, I'm taking Pip , Ginga's not as good as him

. At driving events you can only compete one turnout, and I wouldn't have time to do Pip, groom for dad and Ginga anyway.

??????

Thats a good idea

. I need to persaude dad forb that, as he doesn't like people coming to our yard, but it would be great if he could do that.

i think a sharer is the best idea thats been suggested, then he get all the attention he deserves without you losing touch with him, and you still ultimatley have control if something (god forbid) does go wrong with the arrangement.

I agree with trundle - horses don't care whether they compete or not! For them, it is not a 'waste' to chill out in a field with their friends - it's just being a horse, and they love it!

They certainly do not stand there wishing they could be travelling long distances in a noisy lorry, and then working hard at some competition! If they fancy a bit of exercise/excitement, they can run around and play with each other.

So - unless this horse is going to be left totally alone for long periods and get lonely, why not just give him a holiday?

I'd say get a sharer, someone whos experienced and then at least you can keep an eye on him especially if you keep him where he is now. There are also some good Pony Club homes looking for ponies - may be another option

Would he be calm enough to do rda driving? if so loan him to a driving group then you know he would get the work and you could still get him back when you need him.

I agree with Shilasdair. Getting a decent sharer/loanee that will keep him with you at your yard you can keep an eye on him.

Similarly, I'm sure he wouldn't mind a holiday! Horses like being horses after all!!

Pip and Ginga and the other 5 are all pairs/team/7 in hand. Pip and Ginga are a pair, they have competed nationally, but I am aiming for singles, for the next year at least. Then almost all the others are easier to do as a pair, Pip and Ginga are very powerful....too much for my feeble arms

He wouldn't be suitable for RDA, he is fairly strong in the hand, and can become VERY strong, and he is abit nervy.

A sharer would be good- I am definately looking into that.

Butterfuy bit, top hole would be rough cheek in a liverpool. 13.3 he is fine in traffic, as steady as a rock in a pair, fine on his own but wouldnt be suitable for a complete novice to drive out as he can spook (surges foward), not at or away from cars, just things like black sacks if he is not driven cnfidently.
