To sell or not to sell

I have a lovely little 13.2 ish coloured slightly cobby cheeky gelding. Hes only 3 and totally chilled out about life in general and have been on him a couple of times and hes not fussed about that either. He is such a massive character and i love him to bits but he is too small for me and nothing like the eventer/dressage 17hh+ that i would really like.
I guess i just have got far too attached and although the money would be very helpful right now he isnt really costing me anything to keep and he is so fun to have around.....o the dilema!
i dont want him to go to waste as he is stunning but the thought of not having him around is hard to have had him since he was 6months and pretty much rescued him.
Arghhhh!!
What i would really like to do is stretch him a bit or perhaps put him in a grow bag........

You seem to love him very much. I personally wouldn't sell him, you said yourself that the cost of keeping him isn't that bad, you must have developed a strong bond having had him as a foal. The horse market isn't moving very much at all not much is selling unfortunately, if you still so want to sell him i would wait until the market picks up a bit. Lot's of great horses selling real cheap at the moment. It's sad to see.
It's up to you to make your decision.
 
i dont think im going to get much more height wise out of him, he has spent the last few months filling out alot (a bit too much!) so he is capable of taking my weight, i just feel very silly.
Can find very few reasons to sell him but lots of reasons not to sell him!! lol
i would just collect them though if i could and in order to get something else he has to go so what is more important i guess is really the question!!!!
 
I think you should make a long list of the pros and cons of keeping this horse. It depends on what you want to do with horses. He sounds like a great little guy, I'm sure he would find a lovely home with someone to school him and give him the care he needs. I don't think any of us can really tell you if you should sell him or not. You must be sure if you want to sell him, I think you will regret it if you don't.
Good Luck, It's a hard decision to make for any of us. I'm sure you'll do what's best for him and you.

The horse market isn't good at the moment so he probably wouldn't sell for that much, also because its not that good a 17hh + may not be that much at the moment either (obviousley depends on what you want). If as you say he doesn't cost you that much to keep why not keep him and get a horse. Put some work into him and if when the market has picked up again you still feel that you need to sell him perhaps because having to horses is just too much then you can and you will probabley sell him to a better home because you have put more work on him. Not sure that makes sense I might have gone round in circles

I had a 13.2HH pony from 2 until I sadly had him put to sleep at 17. I did everything with him, we hunted for 5 seasons, did local shows, fun rides, XC, horseball ... you name it, we tried it. My replacement was a 16.2HH that I bought ideally to event, that didn't happen but that's another story.
I can tell you now, if I had the choice, I'd go for my pony any day. He was fun, willing, cheeky and gave me much pleasure in his time.
Don't write him off because he's little, if he can take your weight, go out there and do what you want on him and if people laugh, let them. As you go home, you know that you've got a beautiful pony that you adore and who adores you. That's all that should matter.

Well, if you listen to one person at my yard it could work. She said, "The reason Dolly has grown so tall is because you're feeding her too much for breakfast." -I almost fell about laughing, clearly when I thought it was due to her breeding, I couldn't have been more wrong.
How can she think that a 2yr old standing at 17hh would eat the same amount as her 14hh fat native who's never riden?
