Iv had my mare over a year now and it has not been an easy sail. she was my first horse and is a complete mardy nappy mare but iv perservered as its always been my dream to hav my own horse. after two instructors we were at the point we could jump a course of 70s together so thats progress from not even trotting her. But since july i feel i havnt had the fun i dreamed off from owning my own horse iv broke my ankle and my arm and shes had 3 episodes of colic not to mention the seasons every 3 weeks which turn her into the monster of all. My confidence keeps going up and down and im now considering selling her and riding at a school once a week as i feel i may get more fun from that than fighting with my mare. Although i have been told i will not be allowed another horse again so im torn. me and my husband were also thinking of starting a family soon so she would be turned away for a year.

What do i do sell her and take a signifcant nock in the price or do i perservere and try and get some fun from her or do i turn her away for a year or two start a family then bring her back into work?

Why don't you try her on Agnus Castus, I dont even know my mare is having seasons when she is on it!

Try not to make any rash decisions you will regret.. especially as it could take at least a year to even get pregnant (believe me!) :mad:

Having a horse as a hobby is supposed to be fun, I know anything worth having is hard work but you should equally get the rewards.
If you feel like your heart is not in your mare any longer then maybe finding her a suitable home is the best you could do for her and you.
Do what you feel in your heart and it won't be the wrong thing to do. Also do not feel guilty if having a horse is not the dream you expected it to be.

I wouldn't sell based on what you've put in the quote above. None of these are your mare's fault - so to blame her for your lack of fun seems a tad unfair to me.

You have to take the good times with the bad with horses I'm afraid.
 
Why wouldn't you be allowed to get another one? Horses are very expensive to not get any enjoyment out of. If she's not right for you sell her and buy something more suitable :-)
