Hi guys I’m just looking for some guidance or maybe just somewhere to lay my thoughts, I’ve owned my 13hh Welsh C for coming up to 4 years now he is 15 years old, he has seen me through most of my high school days and has done me well. For around a year now my heart has really not been in it I have no drive to want to go to the farm and ride although I’ve been persisting as obviously he needs caring for and I do love him. I had quite a while off going to the farm during my GCSEs and I hoped that would maybe give me a refresh but I really don’t think it has. Obviously my parents have noticed it as much as I try and hide it and have suggested selling him at the end of the summer and my immediate answer was no but I’ve been told to think about it and the more I think the more I think it sounds more appealing as I work and play sport alongside having him so wouldn’t be able to reallt see him on weekends which is the time to enjoy. I’m really stuck as I love him to peices but I don’t know if this would be the best solution for both of us at the end of the day but I think I’d miss him terribly I feel which ever choice I make will be the wrong one

I would loan him out it very easily to go through that phase I got my first horse at 18 but because I was out of school and in a different routine I temporarily lost interest for awhile and I was considering selling my horse . I definitely would have regretted it now if I sold her. I think every equestrian goes through this phase .

Maybe consider getting in a sharer who can ride him and do the yard chores on the days that don't work for you. Sharing the load and the costs while giving someone else the opportunity to love him could be a great compromise. He sounds just the sort I'll be looking for at the end of the summer holidays :)

thank you for all your replies I have more time to think about it, he is loaned out currently a couple days a week and has been several times in the past this is coming to an end with the same common theme he is a child sized pony with a teenagers/small adult pony attitude which makes him difficult to loan out and I imagine difficult to sell as he definitely has his quirks however I will be able to drive by Christmas hopefully which may make it easier and less of a hassle for me I’m still not sure what my decision will be and will be sure to keep you all updated

Does he drive? Do inhand showing? Just thinking how to make him even more appealing. A friend is currently riding a 12hh pony, she’s small enough to make it viable. She’s more used to a 16hh but after a nasty fall (broke several vertebrae) she’s decided smaller is better, so an adult may well be interested.

He does not drive but could potentially turn a hoof to in hand showing he’s not particularly chunky that’s all he wohld have to have a pretty small adult however I did buy him off an adult though I’m not sure how much he was ridden
