To the driver of VA57 FKA towing south on A417 south just now

It doesn't give a name and address though, just tells you if the car is taxed and insured. Believe me, I've tried lol

It does I saw the one he did on the chassis he bought for my lorry it had the name and address for all it's current and previous keepers .

Anyone with access to the PNC could check this number however they wouldn't be allowed to pass on the details to anyone else. I don't know whether it is right to post the number plate or not (I wouldn't) but I'm wondering if anything would have been said had the OP posted a photo of the scene.

There was a post on facebook with a photo of said trailer, it seems to have been removed now. Unfortunately it was obvious from the photo that the person holding the camera was driving their car at the same time.

I WILL SAY I'M NOT ACCUSING THE OP OF BEING THE PHOTOGRAPHER as the photo was taken on a duel carriageway from behind the trailer and the op has stated they were travelling in the opposite direction.

so because I tow a horse on the left hand side - I too am a bed person!!

yes because it will be YOUR trailer that is more likely to tip over. FFS theres rules/laws why you travel a horse on the right. at the end of the day its about SAFETY. please please please read up as to why as your stupidity could cause the death of your horse, your and several innocent people.

BTW, I was in the Passatt which passed you at the Spine Road, and drove maddeningly slowly all the way to Bassett, 'till I had to turn off. Bon voyage...

No idea about it being an offense to drive slowly infront of someone. Although one of my friends has been pulled over by the police before for driving too slowly!

I once got escorted off the M25 for driving too slowly!!!
My daughters TB mare was weaving in the trailer so I slowed down to 40 in the inside lane.
The police pulled me over and said someone will go in the back of you :(
They took me off at the services and I had to find my way home :(
days before sat nav's
I bought a lorry :)

Assuming the op and the person who took the photo are 2 different people, in order to prove a point that the trailer was dangerous to the horse, they themselves were a potential hazard to other road users.
The photo takers defense on facebook was that they only had their phone in their hand for a few moments and weren't driving more than 50mph at the time. Which would lead me to question who was more of a danger?

You can be charged with deliberately impeding the flow of traffic as the speed limit for the defender and trailer on a dual carriage way is 60 it probally was an offence to deliberately drive in front of it slower than that it also could be harassment if the driver said tHey where intimidated by the other drivers behaviour .

Am I the only one who wonders why the OP was driving (even) at 30mph with her head stuck out of a side window to get struck by a bee??

Other than that, I don't disagree with any of the posts above.

Neither bad nor bed (?) - just uneducated in correct loading and weight distribution. Have you never looked at the car in front and seen how much having just the driver on board pulls the car down on its right hand wheels? A single horse must always be placed in the right hand stall to counter the effect of the road camber (this is why you get warning signs particulary aimed at lorry drivers about the dangers of roll-over where the camber is to the off side or at an extreme slope). If you are travelling with two up, the heavier animal goes to the outside.

When I first read it, I thought she said she was hit by a pea... being hit by a bee makes more sense I suppose.
Kx

Once followed a trailer with the back ramp down, luckily horse had a breeching strap in place. When I tried to attract the drivers attention by flashing head lights they speeded up poor horse was wobbling everywhere so i gave up.

Going off a tangent to the original post but I thought the heaviest horse ALWAYS travelled on the right side of the partition regardless if you're travelling one or two horses? Unless FP you mean outside to mean the right side? I understood the mention of outside to mean the left partition?

That's how we tow, heaviest always on the drivers side, always travel a single horse on the drivers side especially near us when the roads properly dip near the huge dykes we have spotted about

What about if you have 1 horse in a 2 horse trailer but the partitions removed? We always cross tied ours to the right side but very often she would set herself up diagonally, so her head/shoulder was to the right but her butt to the left.

I saw the OP's post on Facebook and I can understand why she was cross, I am probably one that tows too slow, and I never go on the motorway because it scares me too much, maybe the driver will see the post and will learn from it both in terms of the excessive speed and leaving the side door open

I hope the driver sees this.
It's so dangerous.

People should know the rules plus safety advice before towing.
Like having a single horse on the right or the heaviest of the two.

I see no problem.in posting the reg number.
It's on display for all to see every day.

Exactly!
What astounds me is how some people seem to think that the OP can be traced by the driver of the Defender! I appreciate that might be possible if she uses he own name on FB but someone with a username of landcruiser, driving a Passat in Wooton Basset? Not easy to send the heavy mob round, I wouldn't have thought.

Well that and the fact that there is more than one person towing horses in trailers without a clue about what they are doing.

Thank God! I was just coming to the end of this thread & wondering if there were ANY sane posters left on HHO. Can't believe how many people have jumped on the OP for this. OP - well done for posting, and well done for trying to slow the driver down. Sadly, common sense just ain't that common.

Don't think anyone thought OP could be traced just that the address of the driver of the trailer could be and with all these nutters on FB I would not be very happy if where them .
In truth they may left the side window open by accident I will admit to driving off like this once We had to keep going till We found a lay by and closed it .

Yes they did!

I hope to goodness after this post, you don't have any unsavoury types looking for you.

And there were more posts on similar lines

i know it can be done BUT what is your cause for the vehicle search?
it generates more questions than answers...
:(

I didn't. I only ended my reply with saying "And perhaps you could ask Admin to edit the title of the thread, and remove the number plate info", because Achinghips had suggested that Landcruiser should ask for the whole thread to be removed, due to having included the number plate in the thread title, which I thought sounded unnecessary. So my suggestion didn't have anything to do with me thinking about if anyone could be traced or not, it was simply about that if the number plate info meant that the thread couldn't stay as it was on HHO, Landcruiser could perhaps ask Admin to edit the title of the thread.

I'm not sure whether you read my post as thinking that you were concerned for the OP's safety but I did understand what you meant about the thread title, although I can see no reason to remove the number, it was on the road for all to see yesterday. Without access to the relevant data-bases, there is no way to trace someone from a number-plate. Any-one with legitimate access to the data-base, who used the information for an illegal purpose, such as intimidating someone they had read about on the internet would soon be found out and sacked from their job.

It's very very easy to trace keepers details from a number plates my OH does it every time he buys a used car you do it online or on your phone and they charge your credit card .
It was one of the reasons I stopped being a welfare officer as I used my own vehicle the thought that I could be traced to my home from my reg number was just too scary.
I have also heard of it being used in tack room break ins the thieves go a local show trace your reg go to your home and break in there was a spate of that near here.

When you buy a used car you get the previous owners details on the logbook, you don't need to trace them. It wouldn't be very sensible to pay with your own credit card to trace someone's details for a nefarious purpose.
