To those of you on private yards...

This one via a friend of a friend but in the past have asked the local riding club and pony club.

knew of the yards existence but not exactly where it was, saw it mentioned on FB that it was empty so phoned a friend who knows the people that own it and got the chaps number and arranged to go have a look, agreed to take it straight away.

Im "on livery" but at a private yard :) posted on fb groups to say i was looking for a space for a pony mare in a certain area. Got messaged by them, went to view and moved there the same week. I got lucky big time, love my yard :)

I used to keep my horse there yrs back, farmer died so I moved! new farmer took it on, I move back, another woman bullied me off, so it sat empty for a few yrs! then got hay delivered by the new farmers son, who'd taken over all of the farms. spoke to him about it and he let me move back up :)

so I a word, have a word with local farmers!

Bought some land at the edge of the village, no fencing, no water, no electricity, eight acres of docks basically! Built it up from there.

Did fencing and water first. Made some stables out of army tents while we waited for planning permission - I was losing my grazing so had to move the horses. Next got the base down and built stables.
Made do without a school for a year or so but We're on really heavy clay, so had to have something to ride on, so I made a woodchip arena with no proper drainage which did really well for seven years.

We managed with a generator (or two, one was nicked) for about four years. We now have the luxury of electricity and a proper sand and fibre sand school. It took about 12 years to get everything I wanted on the yard.

My farrier heard I was looking to move yards and gave me the owner's number - he knew the pony on it was going to be going in a month or two and we went from there!

Word of mouth. We asked around and made it known we were looking for a place. When one came up we were recommended to the land owner (which was lovely!)
I knocked her door hearing it was available and she knew all about us and we took it over within a few days.
