Do they drop much? :o

I've had a quick search on here but found 2 very different opinions from very different years so thought I'd ask for a more recent update!

I treated myself to a pair, I've longed after them and saved for ages and the beauties came in the post today - but they're a little too long. I know leather boots drop a little with wear but wanted to make sure that these ones will do because I can't really bend my leg as it is!
Also, is there anything I can use to soften the leather a bit and make them a bit more comfortable to break in?

Thank you! x

No they bl*ody well don't ! Mine were awful to break in and still need heel lifts in them now :(

Agree they don't drop but mine definitely didn't need breaking in as they were the most comfortable long leather boots I have ever had right from the off!

Mine dropped quite alot, just got my second pair after the last ones lasting 18 months of everyday yardwork and riding. They had dropped loads and were sooo comfy in the end i was sad when they eventually had to go in the end. The ones are are at the slightly numb feet and sore at the back of the knee stage but know in a few weeks they will be fine.
i find a mixture of horsemans one step and normal polish helped soften and protect. As i said ive worn them in all weathers on the yard working 6 days a week and i ride a minimum of twice a day.

I rode the first 5 or so times with the button undone so they didnt rub and i kept forcing my heel excessively down when hacking to get them to crease a bit and mine dropped not long after.

i have quite short shins too which means i usually struggle with long boots but the Bromonts are fine!

Stick with them :) Bromonts are soft leather and do drop. I found mine very long at first, I rang Ariat and they sent me some heel raisers foc, these helped a lot.

Mine dropped a good half inch, possibly more! Comfy as anything. I have just bought a second pair and have had to put heel raisers in to help break them!

I used to work in a tack shop and sold these, have a pair of my own but they don't get out much luckily I have long legs! We always used to send everyone away with a pair or heel lifters, or you can use 2 heel lifters per shoe without feeling too high, at least until they drop a bit.

Mine are almost 2 years old and dropped a fair bit but I rode in the everyday!

They were a little long for me when I got them but now fit perfectly and are my favourite shoes ever! (If it was socially unacceptable I'd probably consider wearing them clubbing :p haha!)

Thank you everyone! Think I'll be sticking with them... I've wanted them for so long and can't really bear to send them back :o
Definitely a bit of a wimp so will be riding with the button undone for now, and must remember to get myself some heel lifters! I do have to agree though, from the second I put them on I was hit with how instantly comfy they are, despite being too tall for me. x

Second this, none of my Ariat long boots have needed to be 'broken in'

I had mine shortened by my local saddler so can't tell you!

They are years old now and aren't baggy round the ankle so I'm guessing not?

Mine dropped very very slightly, but 2 years on they could still do with dropping a bit more but I doubt they will. They are very comfortable though and its only when I ride with short stirrups that I have an issue.

I've checked the web, and these are the ones with the laces that I've seen several times online. My bank balance is glad is that I won't need to join the 'must have' club, I don't personally like the look of the laces, and would also think that they could get trapped between the stirrup iron and the leather. I'm not keen and prefer the look of a traditional boot (if I could get one to fit my calves :o ). However, if they are what you've been hankering after I wish you well with them, and hope they are everything you expect after a few weeks of wearing.

What do you mean about the laces getting trapped?

They are elasticated and sealed....you don't tie them yourself.....

Mine hardly dropped at all, but were the most comfortable boot from the first ride- they didn't need breaking in at all. Mine are showing signs of wear now, but they are 3 years old and I do admit to the odd mucking out session wearing them....me bad:o

I will most definatelyt be getting another pair.

IMO.....they do look smart enough to compete in too, just given 'em a good clean:)

The laces won't get trapped- they are just elasticated 'string' there for cosmetic and flexibility purposes- you don't touch them like a conventional lace.

I've got two pairs (one in each colour!!) and neither have dropped much. I only use mine for competing and they are the insulated version. I often struggled with boot lengths so wanted them longer- as new they were only just long enough for me so I think I would have noticed more of a drop. I tried on both insulated and non insulated and found the insulated ones ever so slightly higher (maybe to do with the lining? I'm not sure but there was definitely a minute difference!). I also wonder if the insulated retain their height due to the lining?

Ah, I didn't appreciate that. Then what is the point of the laces if they aren't functional?

The elasticated laces are there to accomodate people that have a high instep or a deep foot. Without the flexibility of the laces some people may find the boot too tight around the foot :)

I have a high instep and have found it difficult to get my foot around the bend in long boots so these boots are brilliant for me (also I think they look nice!)

They are so comfortable! and yes they drop to a degree, although mine are still too long. The most disappointing thing with ariat are the zips. They either break or the zip tag breaks off! I wish they would sort out this common problem.

Had mine 4 years, wear them regularly and have never had a problem :)
