When the breeder says do NOT view other litters before coming to see theirs, there is a very good reason for it. PLEASE do as they ask and do not LIE.

We had someone come to see the litter a couple of days ago, as usual asked them not to view another litter beforehand due to risk of infections etc. They came, played with the pups etc etc etc. Rang that night to say that they didnt want our pup because the ones they had seen on the way to us (the local puppy farm) were lighter built and that was what they wanted (we told them they were chunky, show type pups on the phone, they were obviously window shopping!!).

And yesterday, the puppy they were looking at started getting sick. Vet says he has a VERY serious infection. We will be taking him back tomorrow to either risk very aggessive treatment that may well kill him, or to have him put to sleep. I cant even put into words how angry I am.

Dont look at the pics if you are sensitive, he is one very sick puppy..

Pray for this little man please :(

Poor little mite :( everything crossed for him (and his litter mates)

Hope you've sent these pics to those bloody morons

Oh good God. I am so angry for you and so blooming sorry you and your pup/litter have been put at risk like this.

I was asked not to interact with other dogs before I went to see Harvey and the rest of the litter. Our shoes were removed outside, and put in bags away from the dogs and we were asked to wash our hands before touching them too.

I sincerely hope your pup makes it and I pray for the health of the rest of your litter too. Have you had to isolate him?

Im just angry at the moment, their selfishness has probably killed this puppy...

He is isolated away from the other dogs, but we are keeping an eye on them. We ask everyone to wash their hands with antibacterial hand wash before handling the pups, but it doesnt kill everything unfortunately, especially when they have visited pups from a puppy farms known for producing very sick pups (including several who had parvo!!), which is why we ask them not to visit other breeders on the same day. If we'd have known they would not have got near our puppy. Thankfully we only let them see him as he was the only "available" one so they didnt touch the other pups.

Oh poor little man :(
Really praying for you that the outcome is good for him. You could maybe see if people were ignorant of the fact of spreading viruses between litters - but the fact that you specified they should not view others and they LIED is disgusting.

Got everything crossed for him - and I agree with JoG - let them see the damage they've caused.

Massive {{{{{vibes}}}}}} for puplet.

I cannot believe someone has been so thoughtless!

I have to admit it is not something I would have thought of but I most definitely will now and will make sure I'm careful visiting puppies.

Poor little mite, I hope his treatment works. We have 2 border terriers from the same breeder (different ages) I never even thought about seeing more than 1 litter - fell in love with puppies straight away :) and as I had already asked masses of questions on the phone knew what to expect.

How thoughtless of them.

Poor little pup is looking very sick and sorry for himself.
I hope he pulls through.

I'd send the B's the vets bill with a solicitors letter and those pictures!!! Poor puppy I do hope he pulls though and I hope the rest of the litter are ok.

Poor little mite, he does look sorry for himself, fingers crossed he pulls through. I always ask people not to view other litters the same day and as far as I know most have done as I ask. So infuriating when you take every precaution to protect your pups and ignorant b*****ds like this disregard them.

Poor little chap, fingers crossed for him that the treatment works and for the rest of the litter. I would be so angry at these people, as KarynK says they would be getting a solicitors letter, vets bill and pictures of the poor pup. :( People are so F****NG stupid it's untrue. Speaks volumes that they chose a farmed pup over yours ... morons. There is alot of parvo about at the moment too, my vet rang me the other day to warn me incase I had a litter, they have had alot of cases in recently. I guess its lucky they didn't bring that into your litter, not that it's any consulation while you still have one very sick puppy :(

OMG :(

Thats just horrific. Ditto that it's not something I'd have thought of, and something that I've ever been asked.

Please let us know how the wee man gets on at the vets, I cannot fathom why anyone would even VIEW at a puppy farm, not when there's good choice from private breeders.

Because they are cheap.. Some people dont care about the conditions they come from as long as they save £100!

A few people have said we should send these people the bill for the pups treatment but unfortunately although we know thats how he got it, and the vet is 100% sure thats how he got it too, it is impossible to prove. Thank god i have no more litters planned other than my basenji who's pups will be going to people i know!!! We are very lucky that they didnt bring parvo into the house, that is one good thing i suppose.

{{{{{{Fingers crossed}}}}}} for your poor puppy, he looks so vulnerable.

But I can't help that I also feel sorry for the poor puppy mill puppies, who must be affected of what the potential puppy buyers transmitted to your poor puppy.

I wonder if they really will get the exact same puppy, as they viewed in the puppy mill? Also if they get that very same puppy and it then has health problems, how much money will they be willing to pay to have it treated at the vets? Since they chose to vote with their wallet and buy a puppy mill puppy, rather than a puppy from a responsible breeder.

Probably just as well that you didn't intend to send them the vet bill, if they get a puppy that looks to be healthy (? exchanged?) from the puppy mill, they would probably just count themselves lucky and talk to their friends about their lucky escape, because they had viewed a puppy from one breeder who then turned out to be sick, but fortunately for them, they had already decided to buy their healthy (?) puppy from another breeder.

poor puppy :(

playing devil's advocate, did the people know why they shouldn't come to you straight after seeing another litter? They may well have not been aware that puppies can carry infections that can be passed on by hand contact...

yes, people are that "stupid", they are also stupid enough to pet an animal that's been quarantined for ringworm then not wash their hands

That is what UnaB is so annoyed about, she particularly asked the people not to view other litters before going to see hers.

Poor Pup :(

Although I know where LO is coming from, they may have been told not to, but if they didn't know why, then maybe they weren't realising the danger to the door pup.

For instance if someone said to me - "dont go and see another litter before ours please" and they didn't explain why, I would probably - WRONGLY- jump to the conclusion that its more to do with wanting you to buy one of their puppies etc. I would die of shame if I caused this, and if it was me and I was made aware of what I'd done, I would be mortified.

I'm sure they didn't mean to hurt your pup, I know ignorance is not an excuse but surely no-one means to hurt a pup like that?

I hope he pulls through, I almost choked when I saw him, little love.

Just to add my thoughts and best wishes to the pup :(

People can be so remarkably stupid and thoughtless. I think you should get them to wash their hands in future cause people obviously can't be trusted. :(

gulp - i could easily have done something like that. It's obvious once you know why, but honestly, before i read this, I wouldn't have understood. Unless it was spelled out for me it was because of risk of disease, if someone said 'don't see any other puppies before you see mine', i would have thought it was just rather pushy sales. Actually, I'd think you had a bloody cheek. And done whatever i wanted.

You may have made the reason clear - and those people behaved terribly in that case. Hope pup is ok.

I am speechless, but wanted to add that my thoughts are with you, that poor little mite and the rest of your brood. It really does bring home the true horror of conditions at puppy farms/mills, (call them what you will) and how one persons thoughtless action can impact on others. I do so hope that he pulls through with no lasting effects x
