To Vamoose, or not to Vamoose?

Looking to get a Rambo Sweetitch Hoody (given up on Boett Blankets), was wondering if it's worth shelling out an extra £40 odd for the Vamoose version?

Any differences in sizing and fit between the normal and Vamoose options?
Do you find the Vamoose stands up to being rained on? It says good for 20 washes, does that include heavy rain or just refers to being in the washing machine?

Itchywitch gets all exposed areas powerphaser'd daily and Deosect all over once a week - 2 weeks as is, but any extra fly-killing power is good in my books so long as it works!
 
I had the amigo vamoose fly sheet and didn't notice much of a difference wearing it or any other rug (he is also covered in fly repellent/neem). The Amigo fly sheet was tighter around his (not very big) shoulders too fit wise whereas other amigo/Rambo rugs have fitted fine in that same size.

My rug got trashed by other horses and currently having the same musings as you as to whether to buy another one in the hope that it does do something and that since he's grown it'll fit better or to save the money and spend it on sprays and keep on with his other "normal" fly sheets

Yeah my girl does not get on with Amigo, she's got big shoulders!

I used to have the same problem when I was on a livery yard, other horses trashing her rugs meant I was limited in what I could buy because without fail the others would tear holes in it regardless of how much I spent! I had her come in once with her new on the night before fly rug in ribbons!
Thankfully now it's just her and my older mare, and her rugs have been fine since, but I do like that the Rambo is 1000D as she can be a clumsy oaf at times! I don't mind spending the money, as it's money from the sales of her Boett Blankets, I just don't want to pay the extra for Vamoose and find I've been suckered in by some marketing ploy that either doesn't do much or if made redundant by the existing routine lol

I've got the vamoose version and it kept my Fell itch free all season without extra fly repellent except in his ears as he wouldn't wear the fly hood. Fits his chunky frame well. Don't tell OH but I washed it in the machine and so far so good this year!
 
Well, I've ordered one with Vamoose. I signed up to a couple of websites selling it in the hopes that one would send a 'Here's a welcome discount!' and thankfully one did, so with the 10% off, it only ended up costing approx £20 more than one without, so figured sod it, if it works then grand! If not, then it's no big deal.

Oh yes, I never had them at other yards due to cats, surprising how many people are unaware of it! No cats here though, nor any plans to get any. Cats at home, but the rugs only come home for a wash and go straight from the car to the laundry room which is always shut to keep animals out :)
 
I had one of the vamoose sweet itch rugs and can't say I noticed any difference in flies bothering my pony. I do use the Horseware fly masks which are also treated with it because I really like the style and find they stop rubbing. However, pony lost a nearly new one in the field and i found it lying on the ground - covered in flies.
 
I found the Rambo rug great and its all in very good condition after around 5 years except in the second year the inside material round the front/shoulder area wore into holes which is a pity as its otherwise a good rug. but then it rubs the horse. I am going with Shires for the next one an d see how that does.
 
I really liked the rug and still use it - particularly when it's very hot as he seems to keep a bit cooler in it. Just not sure it was any better at deterring midges. I also have Shires rugs which work well - also seem a bit lighter than the Premier Equine when it's very hot.

I haven't put it on yet, it's been a bit on and off raining here so she's had on her Ruggles SI rug on, the one with the waterproof topline. Admittedly part of me is waiting till the ground dries back out, as there are few things more soul destroying than watching her go out with her brand new, shiny clean rug and promptly wallowing in the nearest mud puddle :rolleyes:
 
I’ve been wondering this. I had no idea about the cat link 😳 I’ve never had cats or a vamoose rug so not a problem but I do now have cats and am looking at fly rugs so thankyou very much for pointing that out!
I’f I were to leave a vamoose rug say, hanging over a door and the cat was around? How careful would I need to be? I would at night maybe take fly sheets off and leave them somewhere cat accessible. Am I better getting a non vamoose?

You don't want to cat to be able to sit on them, or generally make contact with it. Probably better going non-vamoose if you don't have somewhere cat-proof to store it overnight.
