Dear whippet experts, I've got a question that I can't seem to find an answer to elsewhere. We are thinking of getting a whippet pup, I live in Greece and we spend a lot of time outdoors. Would a whippet sit happily with me while I sip my coffee outdoors at the cafe...(after plenty of exercise of course)? Would it sit contentedly while the kids room around on their bikes in the town square? We

Oh, you simply HAVE to get a whippet - there could be no dog better suited to sitting around in congenial surroundings. They are the sweetest, silliest dogs, simply charming.

Yes, but not on the floor. you would need to take a blanket or something soft. They are so bony its uncomfortable for them on a hard surface. But other than that, they would love it. Mine are the most gregarious, sociable creatures I have ever met. They would both sit there and joyfully accept any attention that came from passersby/kids/waitresses etc and the rest of the time they would just lean in and enjoy being with you. I have never known a breed that like people as much as they do.

My youngest got out yesterday when the door was left open. He took himself over the road and went into my neighbours house to see them. He doesnt know them but I've noticed him eyeing them up when he sees them in the street, so he took the opportunity to go and introduce himself  He was having a lovely time when we tracked him down!

Yes most whippets will love that sort of life! We often take ours to dog friendly pubs and she will lie quietly while we eat, drink and chat. She loves all the fuss from admiring strangers too!

I took my first whippet absolutely everywhere with me, sometimes doing energetic things, sometimes sitting about. She would sit outside this stables, on a rug ofcourse, while I mucked out, sit in the car and wait for me, come in other people’s houses and behave beautifully.
They need to be warm and have something soft to sit on. Gregarious, loving and full of fun. Just need a really good zoom round each day, then happy.

Whippets live for going visiting and being part of the family outings. Take a blanket and have a nice walk and they'll go anywhere and talk to anyone.

No dog I've ever met makes friends like a whippet.

I want to Whippet... serious planning in a few months, but OH wants to TV.... I mean, what? To Whippet is far more fun... Even got a few names picked out! (You can't name your TV!)

This delightful young man cost a 1/3 of what a pretty ordinary TV cost :biggrin3: They are a very reasonable breed to buy.
