Firstly - that my new mare does have a mega-spook in her.
Secondly - The gound IS very hard.
Third - I don't bounce like I used to!
OUCH!! And slightly embarassing as I was having a lesson with a new instructor at the time. Maggie brushed against the arena fence, and I think she freaked herself out as all of the field fences have electric along the top, and she got 'zapped' a few days ago. She shot sideways and spun, and I came off over her shoulder, and hit the dirt. (Grass arena, so no fibre sand to ease my fall!)
I've been nervous of riding her, and about coming off, but was quite pleased that as soon as I got my breath back, I was straight back on her again. Finished the lesson on a reasonable high note, so happy overall.
Maybe a fall was what I needed to get over my fear of falling, in a strange kind of way!
